Once again Greypool gave a silent growl. Badgerstep and Moonspirit were getting to close to the kits. They had given them up for the sake of their well being and although he didn't much care for them being exposed as traitors, he cared for Smallheart and he didn't want these kits to be ripped from her heart and given the name traitor he wouldn't have it. He got up from next to Smallheart and walked over the the kits. "Come along lets go play closer to you 'mother'", he said staring at Bagderstep trying to get the message across. When he gave up these kits he waived all claims as father and now they rested on Greypoo'ls shoulders and though he didn't want them he would keep them safe for Smallheart.

Seeing Greypool pad over, Badgerstep's smile immediately melted away. He knew what the tom was going to say, whether he said it out loud, or kept it in his mind. Get away. The black and white tom's shoulders sagged along with the corners of his mouth, and he slowed his tail to a stop. "Uh, right," he agreed in a mumble, rising back onto his paws and taking a few pawsteps back. "You kits need to stay closer to the nursery. Don't want your parents to worry..." His amber eyes flashed back up to Greypool's. He felt so torn, right then. He knew that Greypool had been right to step in, but they weren't really his kits when it came down it. Who the kits thought were their parents didn't alter the truth. The tom flashed a sad smile to the two little she-kits, then padded around them, walking past Greypool while giving him a look that was mixed with determination and defeat at the same time before retiring back to the warrior's den.
