((K, edited, I am replying to Brightkit)) She grabbed Brightkit's scruff and pulled her into one of the' 'rooms'. This one was of a young tom, their adopted uncle and now leader of LurkClan, Swiftsun but his scent had long become indistinguishable.(hope thats right '~') She hissed through her teeth, "They are going to see you!" she leaned into a hunting crouch that would have made even ThunderClan proud and she stalked into another room, checking each one Then she made a pretend gasp and hide behind a clump of dirt, waiting for Brightkit to walk by.
Badgerstep smiled a little, keeping an eye on Swiftfire. "Ugh, sure, Moonspirit," he grunted, stepping into the back area of the den she had specified and choosing a nest for himself as he waited. As he sat there, his nerves began to act up. He didn't like the idea of Swiftfire being so close by. He had been wanting to spend just a few moments with Moonspirit, but how easy would that be to do if the deputy of the Clan was standing just outside?
His worries began to evaporate, however, when he saw the beautiful white and silver she-cat pad into the den. A smile spread across his face once again, and he stood back up as she drew closer. "Love," he purred quietly, still smiling. "I think I'm fine, otherwise." His amber eyes looked into hers, and the world seemed to stop for a moment. She was just so perfect. But then he remembered the little she-kit he'd seen just before, but would never be able to see him. The one who looked so much like her. The large warrior glanced down at his paws. "Before I came in here, I noticed one of... Smallheart's kits. Brightkit. She's... Blind?" He had paused before he muttered the word, almost stumbling over it. It was hard to wrap his mind around.
~~~~~
Brightkit almost squeaked when Violetkit suddenly grabbed her scruff and pulled her back. Finally when she let go, Brightkit scrambled back onto her paws. "Don't do that!" she hissed quietly, lashing her tail out irritably. But something her sister said had confused her. "Wait, what do you mean see? What's that?" But even as she spoke, the silver she-kit could hear her sister lightly padding away. Then there was a sudden gasp, and the pawsteps cut off. Brightkit pricked her ears in alarm, facing toward the direction the last sound had come from. "Violetkit?" she mewed quietly, feeling almost queazy with worry. She didn't understand what had just happened. "Violetkit, where are you?"
Violet hopped onto Brightkit, "Gotchu Brighty! They fell into a lump of fur, Violetkit rolled over to the side. Her fur was caked in dust and moldy grime hanging onto the walls she shook it off but then got an outstanding idea, "Brightkit! This can be our own den, we can get moss from Moonspirit's den and have naps outside of the nursery!" she squeaked, clearly forgetting all about the game. She yowled and danced around the den like a kit.
Meanwhile in Moonspirit's den the medicine cat leaned over and licked Badgerstep's cheek, embracing him. But when Badgerstep mentioned Brightkit she quickly jerked away. "You saw..." she mewed, not meeting his gaze. "Yes, she is coping rather nicely really." she sighed, "Okay, tonight, our usual meeting place. I can't keep Swiftfire waiting, she leaned over to her supply and gave him some lavender. "Take this, it will help." she licked him on the cheek and turned out of the medicine cat den. "Hello Swiftfire, can I help you?"
Brightkit yelped in alarm when her sister suddenly slammed into her. She hadn't been paying attention to the oncoming scents or sounds, as she had been to confused to do all that much. As Violetkit rolled off of her, starting to blabber on about nests or something, the silver she-kit rose back up onto her paws and shook her head back and forth. "Yeah, yeah, but listen! What were you talking about this 'seeing? I don't get it, what were you talking about?" The little kit felt that this was something very important- something she should really know about.
~~~~~
Badgerstep felt the last bit of ground slip out from under him, and he sank his claws out. "So I was right," he growled- not angry at any cat but himself, and perhaps StarClan themselves for doing this. What was this to them, some kind of punishment? They hadn't done anything wrong! But he then sighed, trying to push the matter away, and looked back up to Moonspirit. "That's good to know, that she's coping," he mewed, trying to see the brighter side of the matter.
Then at her suggestion, his eyes grew a little lighter. "Okay. I'll be there," he promised in a whisper, giving her a quick lick on the forehead before she turned to leave. "I love you." The warrior flashed her a small smile before laying back down in his nest and pawing the lavender closer to him and watching the she-cat turn to leave before looking back down at the little flower. There would be more time later that night for them to talk. He'd have to wait till then.
Violetkit completely ignored her and dashed out of the den, sending dust everywhere. She tripped scrabbled out of the den, rolling away. But she bounced up, shook herself off and dashed back towards the medicine cat den. She bumped into Swiftfire, but didn't take any notice. "Moonspirit! Moonspirit! Moonspirit! I found a really cool den! Can I take some moss to make a nest?" she mewed, her big eyes identical to Moonspirit. Her face was innocent and oh so adorable.
Moonspirit heard scrabbling and saw Violetkit bump into Swiftfire, she waited for her to apologize to Swiftfire. When she didn't she felt her pelt burn, but she should feel like that over someone else's kit... She smiled kindly to the little kit, "Yes Violetkit, in my den. Take as much as you need, I am going out tonight for herbs anyway I can grab some on my way. She watched as Violetkit walked into her den. She turned back to Swiftfire.
Violetkit nodded and walked into the den, it was dark and musty and smelled of herbs. She heard something from the corner of the den in a nest, she forgot all about moss and turned to it. It was a tom, black and white. He must have been a warrior, she thought. She peered at him, her blue eyes glowing in the darkness. "Hello." she mewed, walking towards him. "I'm Violetkit, what is your name?"
Brightkit lashed her tail out at her sister's leave. "Stop ignoring me!" she grumbled before following Violetkit out of the den, squeezing through the hole as she had done so to get into it, and then heading after the scent trail that lead back to Moonspirit's den, but stopping before she too rammed into Swiftfire. The she-cat's scent had grown stronger as she'd drawn closer, telling her that the new she-cat was standing in the path she was taking. "Excuse me!" she mewed politely, then skirted around the she-cat and bounded in the direction Violetkit had gone, slowing to a stop as she approached her sister's scent. "At least wait up for me," she panted, slightly out of breath. Then Brightkit noticed the new scent of a tom a bit ahead of them. His scent... It made her nose twitch. She must have scented him before, she must have. It was familiar, kind of like how Moonspirit's was. Maybe he visited us as kits? she wondered.
"And I'm Brightkit," she mewed in introduction, looking at where she assumed the tom was.
~~~~~
Badgerstep looked up in surprise when a sudden flash of grey entered into the den, his ears pricking. The large tom almost did a double-take. It was the same little she-kit he'd seen running off toward the apprentice den just a few moments ago. He would have known her anywhere. Violetkit! The tom parted his jaws to say something in return, when a second kit, silver, bounded into the den. His heart skipped a beat. Brightkit, he murmured to himself just before she said the her name.
The black and white tom felt that all he could do was stare at them, at first. They were here, in front of him. Two of his little kits were here... Emotion rolled about in his belly. He wasn't sure what to do. But, he supposed the first thing would be to answer Violetkit's question. "My name is Badgerstep," he mewed, amber eyes looking from one she-kit to the other. "And I know who you are- you're Smallheart's little kits." He smiled to cover up the twinge of unhappiness that spawned from that sentence. "You two... You're very beautiful little she-kits, aren't you?" he purred, letting his tail swish back and forth. "What are you doing in here?"
Violetkit bounced, "We are going to make nests of moss in a new kit-den! Just for us!" she purred, her ears and tail up. She was very happy, this tom was kind and nice. Maybe he could be her mentor, "We are going to have so much fun!" She nudged her sister, "Aren't we?!" she smiled and started spinning, looking for some moss. Though she had no idea how to make a nest or how much they would need she fell over spinning too much. "Where is the moss?"
Badgerstep purred again at the thought. "Oh, are you, now?" Amusement gleamed in his amber eyes. They were such kits. His kits. "The moss is over there, in the back corner," he mewed, indicating the fresh bedding with his tail-tip. "But it sounds like a big job for two little she-kits. You'll need a good amount of moss if you're going to have enough for two beds... How about I help you carry some over to this new kit-den?" There was a tinge of hope in his mew. Perhaps he shouldn't have even asked, seeing as it might seem odd to the other cats, but still, he would love to actually spend a little time with them.
Swiftfire looked behind her as Badgerstep came in looked a bit out of place and hurting. She looked worriedly at the tom. She listened as Moonspirit told him to go rest in the back of the den. Then she was asked if something was going to be said that was important. Before she could tell the medicine cat that it was, Moonspirit slipped into the area where Badgerstep was.
The deputy looked on confused, but waited patiently. She sat down and closed her eyes for a moment. If she twitched her ears, she could hear Badgerstep and Moonspirit talking. The tone was surprising from what she could hear. Wasn't the tom in pain? Before she could think anything it did become that and she snorted at herself. Why would any cat lie about a stomach ache?
Finally, Badgerstep was given herbs when the two had come out. He then bounded out of the den rather happily. Again the thought struck her that the tom wasn't acting sick or hurt at all. Shaking off the feelings, she turned when Moonspirit called her. The form of the she-cat came back into her vision and she stood up.
A sudden weight hit her back leg and she turned around. One of Smallheart's kits had layed siege to her hind legs. Before she could say anything, the scrap of fur had run over to Moonspirit. Swiftfire smiled at the kit and how playful and excited it was about the den it had found. Moonspirit seemed just the opposite and she cocked her head. Was that shame coming from the cat?
She opened her mouth to scent the air better and was stunned that it was. That rather confused her further. Just what was going on? If anything Moonspirit should be lecturing or loving the little kit's actions. Moonspirit allowed the kitten to take some herbs and moss though and she was glad. When the little kit left, she finally was able to talke to the medicine cat.
"Moonspirit, I know-," she broke off as her nose began to itch. It grew silent in the den as she began gasping for breath. Then a huge sneeze blasted from her. Swiftfire's pelt prickled in annoyance and apology. "Sorry, must have been all the herbs," she smiled.
Her posture then shifted and she looked at Moonspirit determined to get her message out. "Now what I was going to say was, that I know you have a bad cough. I'm scared it might become worse Moonspirit with leaf-fall here and all," Swiftfire said. Putting her ears down she continued. "I think you should go get some catmint and honey today just in case because we need to be ready for the greencough epidimic that sweeps throughout alll clans," she said with meaning.
"I know your the medicine cat and I trust you very much Moonspirit, but I think getting herbs tonight isn't wise on your part. Please stay in camp tonight and get the herbs during today. Your the last cat that needs to get sick. Moonspirit please promise me you won't get herbs tonight and that you'll stay in camp." Swiftfire was totally serious about everything she said. Greencough scared her, as it should. Windclan didn't need anything bad to happen right now and Moonspirit couldn't get sick at the moment. All medicine cat duties needed to be during the day or the she-cat would get sick. If she had to agrue and post guards out to discourage the medicine cat she would.
Violetkit nodded, "Okay Badgerstep! Cum'on Brightkit, Lets go get some Moss!" she bounded over to the stack of moss and grabbed a piece nearly as big as herself. She purred and dragged it out of the den, out the door and into her new den and back out waiting at the door. Badgerstep was fun, much more fun than Greypool. He always shrunk away when she tried to play with him. Smallheart was kind though, she liked to play sometimes, if she wasn't fussing over the other kits. Moonspirit was especially fun, she would come just to play, and sometimes she would bring treats like feathers to play with or cotton for their nest. But Violetkit didn't suspect she was nothing more than her medicine cat, or that Badgerstep wasn't just a helpful warrior.
Brightkit pricked her ears as her sister suddenly darted forward, and in the next heartbeat ran right back past her. "Hey! Come on, Violetkit, wait for me!" The silver she-kit's ears fell down to touch her head in irritation and hurt. Her sister never seemed to care, or listen. She could at least be a little helpful every now and again. But no such luck. She padded over to where she had picked up the sound of rustling moss and reached out to grab some in her jaws. She missed the first time, ending up biting air. The kit lashed her tail in frustration and embarrassment before reaching back out and successfully grabbing hold of a large chunk of moss. But as Brightkit turned to leave, she realized that she couldn't tell where her sister had gone. The moss in her mouth was preventing her from tasting the air, and her ears were picking up no trace of her sister's loud pawsteps. She began to fidget, becoming overwhelmed with a sense of loss.
~~~~~
Badgerstep watched Violetkit go ahead and dash out of the den, the roll of moss in her jaws about as large as she was, and smiled. But when he turned back to his lighter daughter, he realized her struggling. The sight made him wince in pity. Poor little thing. He rose and took a few steps over to where she stood frozen. "Come on," he mewed gently, placing his tail on her shoulders. "Just follow me."
The little she-kit nodded, not making a sound, but the black and white warrior could see relief and determination spread over her face. It made him smile again, but a little smaller this time. He murmured something in comfort, took a wad of moss in his jaws, and then began to slowly pad out of the den, after the direction Violetkit had run off, with Brightkit taking longer strides to keep up.
Once outside the place Violetkit had entered, Badgerstep stopped. The entrance was a bit too narrow for him. So he nosed Brightkit though with care, and then did the same for his wad of moss. "There. Is that enough?" he called in.
Violetkit purred, "Yes! No gwon-ups!" Violetkit pawed his nose, pushing him away. Promise to come play tomorrow?!" she begged, her little nose, fuzzy fur and beautiful eyes made the legendary kitty face. She then got into a hunting crouch and jumped at his tail, licking it and nipping it softly.
(( OOC: *pokes Swiftfire's last post w/ Moonspirit* ))
When Violetkit batted at his nose, it made the large warrior twitch back and purr. "I wouldn't miss it," he promised with a chuckle, looking down at her small face and just smiling. She had her mother's eyes. Both of them did. As she then proceeded to attack his tail, Badgerstep laughed and began swishing it back and forth across the earth.
~~~~~
Brightkit sort of just dropped of her own collection of moss, not bothering with forming it into a proper nest at the moment. Instead, she turned back around towards the exit of the cave and listened to the laughing that came from just outside. The silver kit smiled hopefully. Maybe she could play, too? And maybe understand this one better than the last? Wishing hard, the young she-kit padded swiftly out of the little cave and listened. She heard something- a tail?- brushing this way and that across the earth. She twitched her whiskers mischievously. A little idea was forming in her head. She listened to it go left and stop, then go right and stop, until she got the pattern in her head. Brightkit then leapt and just the right time, and came down, pinning the warrior's tail under her paws. Gottcha!" she squealed happily, feeling proud of herself.
