Smallheart and "her" four kits, Starkit, Violetkit, Brightkit and Glitterkit were nestled in their nest in the nursery. The kits were much bigger now and nestled in their mother's tummy. For some strange reason Moonspirit visited every day, She told the clan that she was weary over Smallheart's recovery and wanted to make sure the kits were healthy, which they were (for the most part). Brightkit still had not seen anything of her new world. It was a sad fact, but she would be blind forever.
The sun was at it's peak when Moonspirit slipped in for her visit. Violetkit shot from her nest, "Moonspirit!" she mewed, jumping over the other kits, no doubtingly waking them from their slumber. "Will you play with us?!" she mewed, bounding infront of her and giving her big, cute eyes, Please?!!"
Her sister's sudden excited squeal startled Brightkit into almost leaping onto her paws. But instead, the grey-white kit only shot her head up. Relying on scent and sound alone made her ears particularly sensitive, so the squeal, so close to her ear, had yanked her roughly into consciousness. "Violetkit!" she whined, shaking her head quickly back and forth in a vane attempt to get the ringing out of her ears. "Don't mew so loud right next to my head!"
Giving a little twitch then of her whiskers, Brightkit parted her jaws a little to figure out what had happened to alert Violetkit. A familiar scent came to her, and her jaws moved into a smile. "Moonspirit, you're back!" The she-kit rose up to her jaws, a little tentatively to make sure she didn't step on one of her siblings, and turned in the direction of the medicine cat's scent. Brightkit loved it when the medicine cat came to check in on them. Not for any particular reason- just because she liked the way she smelled of herbs. The scent kept trying to remind her of something- some early memory she couldn't name, and had given up trying to.
Her clear, unseeing eyes began to itch. The feeling made her wrinkle her nose in discontent, and she made a little twitch with the skin over her eyes. To any other cat, she was opening her eyes. Brightkit, however, couldn't really say what the action was. It was just a twitch. "Yeah, can you play? It gets too boring in here!"
Moonspirit smiled, grabbing a feather that had probably drifted into the den. She blew onto it and it fell back towards the ground. Moonspirit bobbed it up with the tip of her tail. She smiled, her gaze going back to the kits, "Can you keep the feather up without using your paws?" she mewed, letting it fall towards the kits. She sat down, smiling kindly. She hoped she could appear to be some sort of mother figure towards them. Badgerstep deserved to be their mentor as well. Her heart ached to not be called Moonspirit, but Mom.
Violet tossed her head to Brightkit, "I wasn't that loud!" she protested, but then saw the feather. at first she tried to swat at it but Moonspirit bobbed it away. Her eyes were locked on the feather but she was ready. When Moonfeather let it drop she snapped at it, but spit it out. "Eww!" The wet feather started slowly for the ground. "Mama, Brightkit can't play, she can't find the feather!" Violetkit cried out.
Brightkit had, at first, just smiled and looked up to where Moonspirit's mew was sounding from. A feather? What was that? Anticipation made her excited as she tried to think of what it could be. But she couldn't say. She hardly knew what anything looked like, even the shape of the cats around her. Imagining was beyond her.
The little she-cat turned towards Violetkit's voice and stuck out her tongue. "Yeah you were! You were right next to my head!" But when her sister didn't respond, Brightkit realized how quiet everything had gotten, as if everything had paused in time. It was strange. Then the air beside her on Violetkit's side whipped past her, telling the silver she-kit that her sister was off. But why? Was she trying to catch this feather thing? The sounds of paws scuffling on the earth spoke of more movement, until she heard Violetkit spit something out and whine.
Everything was confusing her. What was going on? She couldn't understand what her sister had done, or why. Am I mousebrained? What's going on? But even as she thought thins, Violetkit's words made her flinch in response. "I-I can play!" she protested, lashing her tail out behind her. "If you could just tell me what I'm supposed to do, then I could do it!"
Moonspirit smiled lightly, "Brightkit it right Violetkit. How about Tag, Tag is fun." she tried to think of a safe game for them. She sat down, her tail pointing to Violetkit. She was frustrated with Violetkit, where was her compassion? Both her parents and adopted parents had plenty of compassion, love for weak and helpless and understanding for the young. She sighed, "Violetkit, your it." she smiled, patting her head with her tail.
Violetkit ducked the pat then charged after Brightkit. "I'm Coming to get you!"
Greypool came to visit Smallheart. He had not seen her in a few days, since he didn't really feel a part of her new found family. He was not these kits father and Smallheart was not their mother. Greypool had wanted to start his own family with Smallheart but it couldn't happen until Badgerstep's kits were gone. It took some effort to keep himself in check when it came to these kits, he had hardly ever played with them and when he was around he spent much of his time with Smallheart. When he entered the nursery he smelt the scent of the kits real mother. Moonspirit. In his mind she could at least be a it more secretive when it came to the kits heritage. She was in the nursery everyday and Greypool didn't like it. She gave her kittens up to protect her rank in the clan, so why was she so intent on ruining her own plans. He gave a low growl before laying next to Smallheart. These kits went against Starclan and were cursed from the start and he was just worries that Smallheart was going to be cursed as well for trying to hide these traitors from Foxstar.
Smallheart pressed into him, she loved him. But Moonspirit had nursed her back from the dead, and she couldn't let that ruin her. She was sad that Greypool couldn't love the kits like she did, but she was always going to be a nursery-maid. She was comfortable in the nursery like she had when she was a kit. She smiled softly, nestling into his fur. She was still the size of a young apprentice, so she looked small next to him. She licked him on the cheek and purred, "I love you, you know that right?"
Moonspirit heard Greypool's growl, her spine tingled and she smiled to the kits. "I have to go young'uns. See you later!" she turned and bounded out of the nursery, her head checking over her shoulder's cautiously. Goodbye m'loves. May StarClan bless you and light your path or all eternity. she knew her prayers would do nothing for the black and barren destiny that awaited her. She shivered, Leaf-fall made her whiskers quiver and with a chilling thought she doubted that she would be here to see warmth again. She looked around for Badgerstep, perhaps he could fill the hole where her heart was in the nursery. She coughed, feeling sickly. She grabbed a bundle of herbs packed away in the back of the den, it had catmint, honey drizzle, feverfew and parsley.
Swiftfire's orange tabby form quicky came out of the warrior's den when she heard laughter around the nursery area. She sat and groomed herself as she watched Smallheart's kit play around with Moonspirit. It seemed that the medicene cat had taken a liking to the kittens and had grew to love them. Of course she couldn't blame the she-cat, everyone fell in love with young balls of fur.
Greypool came out of nowhere and went towards the nursery. Good, the father needs to spend more time with his kits if he wants them to every have a strong role model. A few minutes later, Moonspirit quickly bounded out of the area, with a quick glance back.
The deputy cocked her head in mid-lick. What had insued inside the den? Certainly, having another play with your kits was a good thing... Swiftfire had noticed that the medicene cat had been spending a lot of time with Smallheart's kits, but still? It wasn't like Greypool was going to do anything other than watch them while being all lovey-dovey with Smallheart.
She felt like comfronting the tom, but decided better of it. It would only cause issues if she did. A bad cough met her ears and she looked around. Soon whitecough and greencough would emerge and tear up the clan. Swiftfire didn't want that to happen yet, so she carefully looked for the source. Where it came from didn't make her feel any better. It was Moonspirit, the medicene cat, the only medicene cat the clan had.
She quickly got up and went to the medicene den. Peeping in, she found the she-cat in the back of the den. "Moonspirit," she called as she slipped in.
Greypool leaned down and licked the small she-cat on the head. "How could I ever forget.", he smiled down at. But his grimace soon returned when he saw the kits at play. He had to be careful around Smallheart. Sometimes he wanted to start a family so badly that he would think treacherous things about the kits. He would never hurt them intentionally, but his instincts screamed to kill any offspring that did not belong to him. His instinct and reason was fighting all around him. These kits were not his they did not belong in the side of his mate, but the clan could not know that. So for now he would have to put on a mask and claim these cursed kits as his own.
Violetkit watch her leave in dismay she felt sad. She still wanted to play, so she bounded out of the nursery and turned back to Brightkit, "Come 'on! Maybe one of the apprentice's can teach us some battle moves!" she yowled, bouncing around. She was still a kit of coarse, but she felt like she was the most fearsome cat in all of the clan. Her Black, grey and silver fur was sleek and her bright blue eyes were strangely familiar around the WindClan camp. "Brightkit, come'on! Slow poke!" she found an old hole nestled close to the apprentice's den. She could smell faint cat-scent in it. Little did she know that it was the same cavern her own mother and friends played in so many moons ago.
Smallheart sighed, "Good. I love you, and I have loved you many times over. Soon these kits will be in the apprentice's den and then you can be a true father." she whispered very quietly so only he could hear. Her tail wrapped around the two other kits still nestled to her body and she licked them on the head.
Brightkit cocked her head at her sister's idea. Battle moves? That sounded violent and dangerous. The suggestion wasn't all that appealing to her. They were still just kits, after all. But the little she-kit just twitched her whiskers. "Um, okay." Her ears pricked as she listened to the pawsteps of her sister going further away, toward the exit. The silver kit cautiously began to follow the scent trail Violetkit had left, hesitant and worried about hitting a wall. But as she placed her paws in the direction that Violetkit had gone, she soon felt a breeze ruffle her fur. But where had her sister gotten off to? Tasting the air again, Brightkit soon picked up the familiar scent, and padded a little faster in that direction until she stood beside her sister. Her whiskers touched a wall, guessing that there was something in front of them. "What is it?"

Badgerstep hadn't been far off, of course. Once he had heard the little excited squeals of kits coming from the nursery, he couldn't help but walk over near it. Not into it, for that might seem odd, but rather just next to it. As he sat there, he had given a small smile to himself as the unseen kits rolled around and mewed. The sounded like they were having fun. His ears pricked a bit when he heard Moonspirit's faint mew from inside the den as well. She was with them... His smile widened just a bit. At least she always got to be near them, even if she was to them just a medicine cat.
As the mews died down, the black and white tom began longing to go inside. But he knew that wouldn't work. What reason would a warrior of have in visiting kits like this this? Well, was that so strange? He could just say he wanted to see the young cats. But no. Badgerstep couldn't bring himself to try it. His claws snuck out and began to claw the earth painfully. Maybe he wouldn't actually get to see them for a while... But he could still see their mother innocently enough.
Just as the thought passed through his head, a little she-kit bounded out from the entrance of the nursery. His eyes widened as he recognized her pelt. Violetkit! For a moment, all he could do was stare at her. She was absolutely beautiful. Her pelt, her eyes, her little ears... Everything about her was perfect. A painful love stabbed his heart. His daughter... His daughter. It took everything the tom had to keep from following her as she then bounded off toward the apprentice den for a little exploring. And just a couple heartbeats after she turned around a corner, another little scrap of fur popped out of the nursery. The same sensation squeezed his heart. By her silver pelt, much like her mother's, Badgerstep easily knew it was Brightkit.
But something didn't seem right. She was acting strange, as if she didn't quite know where she was. Her blue eyes were open, those very pale blue eyes... Then it struck him. And hard. His eyes widened in realization. His daughter was blind. When he had watched the kits from outside the warriors den, he hadn't been able to notice. But now it was as clear as anything. A lump formed in his throat as he watched her sniff around, then pad off in the direction that Violetkit had disappeared.
That was it. He had to see Moonspirit right then and there. For show, he put on a grimace- thought it really didn't take much effort at this point- and let his tail-tip twitch back and forth irritably. A stomachache seemed like a good way to go. No cat could prove that he was faking it, as it was much more believable that a fake cut or thorn in his pad. Besides, he did have quite a pain in his chest. The tom them stood slowly, and began to make his way over to the medicine cat den while holding the same contorted expression. As he poked his head in first, he relaxed his face a little. Moonspirit?" he called out, eyes searching. Unfortunately, they saw the wrong cat first. Seeing Swiftfire there made his face snap back to a grimace so as not to be found out. But then his amber eyes fell on Moonspirit. Seeing her there, so beautiful, made his heart ache all over again. "I seem to have eaten a bad rabbit or something. Do you have anything for a stomachache?"
Moonspirit stuffed the empty leaf wrap into a crevice of the den, already eaten the contents quickly. She turned to see Swiftfire. "Hello Swiftfire, good to see you." she smiled kindly to the deputy. Shame burned on her pelt but she did her best to hide it. Just then another cat entered, it was Badgerstep, she smiled warmly, her bright eyes shining. "Coarse I have some for you!" she mewed, "Just go into my den, I can meet you there." she smiled and waited for him to slip into her den. Then turned to Swiftfire, I will help him, is it really important or can it wait a minute?" she asked, without waiting for an answer she She slipped back in, "How are you Badgerstep?" she mewed, "Other than your belly ache..." she stepped in front of him, her nose only mouse-lengths from his, she gazed into his eyes kindly. He was so strong and so good-hearted. She could never have fallen for another.
Violetkit peered into the den, she flicked her tail by Brightkit's nose to signal her to follow. Her tail-tip fur just streaked her nose. "Come 'on! I think it is an enemy clan's spy's nest!" she gasped, in play mode. Of coarse she could tell it was WindClan scent. She bounded inside, her eyes bright. She could see many 'rooms' down here, shriveled moss was in each of them, in one she even saw poorly buried rabbet bones.
(( OOC: Swiftfire, Goldy... She was standing right there. :/ ))
Brightkit's whiskers quivered in excitement at the game. An enemy camp? She knew that in real life it would be a horrible problem- terrifying, even. But this is just a game. It's all in fun. The silver she-kit paused as she listened to her sister squeeze through the hole, and then followed right after, feeling out as her whiskers brushed the edges of the hole as she went, guiding her steps. As her haunches popped out onto the other side, she was immediately aware of a lack of wind. They were inside again. The smell was obviously WindClan, but it still smelled differently from the nursery.
The she-kit, playing along, scrutched low to the ground. "Should we hide? We don't want them to scent us!" she mewed quietly as she kept her ears tall and pricked for any sounds.
