Swiftwind trotted into camp, his head held high to stop the rabbit he had caught from dragging on the ground. Inside he was cursing himself. Just tell her how you feel, he reasoned. Worst thing she could do is say no. He dropped his prey onto the fresh-kill pile before turning back to Swanfeather.

Swanfeather dropped her prey smiling. She sat down and started grooming, seemingly calm but her mind racing with his scent and questions zooming faster than monsters through her head. Long graceful strokes flattened her beautiful fur from its ruffles from their trip home.

Swiftwind gave his chest a few brief licks before trotting over to Swanfeather. "Sorry about that," he meowed, all smooth arrogance. "I got overwhelmed." He stood up slightly straighter. "You know how it is."

She purred, "Yes, I know how it is." she said. "I know exactly how it is." She stopped grooming and brushed past him, her pelt mixing with his. "Exactly." She turned around him and her pelt brushed the other side, so she was side to side with him, licking his shoulder.

Swiftwind gave a deep, rumbling purr, rasping his tongue over her head in exchange. "Swanfeather," he murmured, before pausing. He didn't want this to come out wrong. His creamy pelt prickled slightly, charged with worry and love.

"Yes?" her head looked up, her eyes shining with curiosity of his continuing words. "Swanfeather..."

"Ah, well, I..." Swiftwind trailed off, feeling slightly awkward, before shaking his head in exasperation. I may as well get it over with, he thought. "I love you," he blurted out, before hanging his head in shame and expecting her to draw away.

Swanfeather dipped her head for a moment then pushed it up, raising his chin and nuzzling his neck so his own neck laid over her head. "I love you too dear Swiftwind." she purred, licking his chest.

Swiftwind started purring loudly, kneading his paws on the ground and licking Swanfeather's head. "Will you be my mate?" he whispered in her ear, voice low and rumbling.

"Yes." she mewed, "I will, Swiftwind." she leaned into him, purring softly into the ear of her love. "I wish to be with no other tom."

Love softened the arrogant tom's eyes, and he pushed his nose into her fur, purring loudly and twining the rest of his body around her. His creamy fur blended into hers, and his eyes were narrowed with delight.

"What now, love?" she purred kindly. "What should we do, I am a little tired..."

Swiftwind paused for a moment, slightly worried. But then his face cleared. "Let's grab some prey," he murmured into her ear, twining his tail with hers. "We've hunted, so we have the right."

"Okay then." she purred, "Lets go." She padded to the fresh-kill pile and took a starling, scooping it up and sitting in a comfy spot and waited for Swiftwind.

Swiftwind dragged an undersized rabbit off the top of the pile, settling down and prodding it. "Hardly any meat," he complained. "Leaf-bare is so hard." He took a bite anyway
