Big Idea (Dirtfur)

Spottedstar padded into Swiftstar's old den, an opening beneath the roots of an old oak, now her own. She winced, remembering her passed leader, but then pushing it away. She was leader now. She would be making decisions for ShadowClan, leading them through the coming seasons. Awkwardly she sat in the mossy nest, facing the entrance to her den. Her warrior, Dirtfur, had been following behind her. He had told her he had something to say.

It better be good. I'm taking a big risk welcoming these loners. What happened today better not repeat- The thought! Loners asking to join up twice in one day! The ginger-white she-cat shook her head, then looked back up, waiting for Dirtfur to enter.

DirtFur had entered, and sat down near the entrance. He flicked his ears slightly, waiting for a signal to speak. When it was signaled, he started to speak.

"It isn't very a wise idea right now, but soon with the kits, we can make them Apprentices. I know, terrible. But, have you seen their spirit? The queen won't do though, oh no.. But I want to have a little test with the apprentices, and we don't have to say they are loners, and then, make them forget their kit-hood."

His ear flicked.

"What I am saying is, this is a way to make the clan grow. I didn't want that other loner to join, because their kits are way too old."

He licked a forepaw and swiped it over an ear.

"I can be the one to train all of the kits, to see."

He smiled.

Spottedstar looked at him, questioningly. "Do you think that's best? Taking in loners like this? Not every cat in the Clan approved of giving them shelter, even." She paused, thinking it over. "I'm sure the kits could grow up to be warriors, but that doesn't mean that they could. They're not Clanborn. Besides, if Shadow wants to take them and leave after leaf-bare passes that is her choice.

"If the Clan could agree to accepting these new cats, then perhaps it could be possible to take them in. Do you think they would?" she asked, blinking at him, in deep consentration. Her mind hadn't been set on allowing these loners to stay, but the thought of making more warriors would be a serious advantage against the other Clans. This couldn't be done without the Clan's decision, though. They might feel the need to drive Shadow and her kits out.

DirtFur blinked in agreement.

"It isn't the complete best thing, but I think they would be great warriors. Most have good spirit, although a few might need to go with Shadow on their way back. And One looks wise enough to be a medicine cat."

He lifted his chin.

"Most likely, yes. The kits will feel weird for a bit, but soon they will understand."

His tail tip twitched.

Hm.. Plan falling in place.

Spottedstar twitched her tail. A medicine cat was something they were in desperate need off. Why StarClan hadn't sent a new one, she didn't understand. But could lone born kits make medicine cat?

"This could work. If Shadow allows, and the Clan cat allow these cats in, I see no harm in it." She rose from her nest. "As their caretaker, you'll be spending enough time with Shadow and her kits to get to know them. Try to convince them to stay, and keep me informed about their responses. If the time comes for them to be apprenticed, I'm sure you could mentor one who trusts you."

DirtFur creased a smile on his face, and nodded.

"Of course."

He stood up, and went to give her a nod in acceptance.

"I must go tend to them now, don't you think?"

He smiled, heading out without an answer.

Spottedstar watched him go. Dirtfur was a loyal warrior, but something about what had just happened made her feel uneasy. She shivered. Perhaps it was just the coming leaf-bare night winds. The ginger-white she-cat relaxed into her nest and closed her eyes, wondering what was to become of the future.
