Heartpaw nodded, "Of coarse!" She purred, "Now what?"

Flaringmist opened his jaws slightly. "There," he whispered, flicking his tail. A mouse was scuffling among a pile of leaves, unaware of the training cats. It can't have been there for long, Flaringmist reasoned. Otherwise it would have run away already.
He drew his apprentice to his side. "A mouse will feel your pawsteps before it hears you, so tread lightly," he murmured into her ear. "Pounce when you think you are close enough. Remember the biting and clawing action." He released her and waited.

She nodded and crouched, stalking it and locking her gaze on the mouse. She arched her back, and pounced, clawing the mouse and giving a bite to the neck. She held up her first catch ever, "I got it I got it!" she mewed through grey fur.

"Very good!" Flaringmist meowed in approval. "It's often hard to catch prey on your first try." He gave his apprentice a quick nuzzle. "I'll catch something, so you can watch me, then let's head back to camp. Okay?"

Heartpaw nodded, "I'm getting tired," she mewed. "But lets go hunting again tomorrow!"

Flaringmist purred. "Sure," he agreed, before dropping down low. His eyes narrowed and his tail swished across the ground briefly, before he started stalking forwards. Each pawstep was laid down carefully, and the tom pressed himself against the ground. Laying flat, he could see a mouse hidden under a leaf, nibbling a seed. It seemed completely unaware of the warrior.
Flaringmist kept moving for a little longer, until he was about a foxlength away. "For ShadowClan!" he yowled, leaping onto the mouse. He landed with a soft thud and he bit the mouse before it could get away, feeling it go limp.
"Here we go," he purred.

"I will never get tired of that Flaringmist." she purred. "Never ever!"

He picked up the limp creature carefully. "Don't let it bleed anymore," he mumbled through the fur. "We want it to be fresh." He started leading the way back to camp. "Can you remember where you're going to put this?"

"The fresh-kill pile?" she guessed, "Or are we going to hunt longer and bury it somewhere else."

Flaringmist shook his head. "When you're older, or you've caught more prey, you'll put it on the fresh-kill pile," he disagreed. "But for now, you're going to give it straight to the elders. Okay?" He paused for a moment, feeling like he had been a bit harsh. "Then you can take some prey for yourself."

"Okay!" she purred, picking up her mouse. "Maybe they will tell me a story?" she purred.

Flaringmist purred. "Probably, if you ask nicely." He picked up his fresh-kill again. "Remember to take the fresh-kill with you." He began leading the way back to camp, long legs eating up the distance easily.

Heartpaw followed him, though her legs were getting exhausted. She would be glad to be back in camp.

Flaringmist looked back at his apprentice sympathetically. "Your leg will grow," he assured her. "Very quickly, don't worry."

She nodded, wanting to pant but she would have to let go of her kill, so she held it in tightly.
