DirtFur was padding into camp, his fur prickling from his tension. He couldn't believe he managed to kill another cat -- MoonShine's sister.

The dark brown tabby moved over to the Leader's den. He knew SpottedStar was going to be even more disappointed, and that she was going to be furious.

He pratically caused another war, he could tell by the fire in TangleStar's eyes.

He choked a bit, but managed to yowl a greeting to SpottedStar.

He looked at ShadowHeart, his ears flickering.

"S-Stay here."

"No! I want to go with you!" She mewed, "I saw it! I still want to help." she looked at him, nuzzling his shoulder.

The Past Comes Back To Haunt Us

Spottedstar's ears pricked as she heard two familiar voices outside her den. Why is it always these two? she thought to herself. It can't be anything good. The leader pushed aside the bones of a vole she had just finished eating and sat up in her nest. "Dirtfur?" she called out. "Shadowheart? Come in." The ginger and white she-cat dreaded their reason for coming in, Dirtfur especially. He hadn't exactly been the role model warrior lately, always barging in to heat up tensions, and if it wasn't with her, it was with Tanglestar. Whatever it was now, Spottedstar didn't see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Stargaze looked up from where he was laying near Spottedfire's den. Whats....... The black, white speckled tom thought. A icy feeling ran up his spine. Oh no.......................Could it be? he thought. He flicked his tail nervously, his eyes fixed on the pair entering Spottedfire's den.

DirtFur's pelt went hot. SpottedStar heard them, heard them both. Now ShadowHeart had to come.

The brown tabby tom padded in, and crouched low to the ground. His ears folded flat against his head, as he looked up at SpottedStar.

He choked for a moment, but then he spoke, stuttering.

"I-I-I might of C-C-Caused a-a-another w-war. I-I-I k-killed M-Moonshine's S-Sister. S-She attacked M-Me!"

He bowed his head low, his pelt still hot from embarrassment and shame.

Shadowheart looked at her paws, wondering Spottedstar's response. She would stand up for Dirtfur, she was there and she saw he had no choice, she would have attacked them if he had not fought back, but of coarse ThunderClan would never see it that way.

Betrayal In Every Step

Her suspicions had been right. For a moment Spottedstar just sat there, staring at the tom, but then she sprang to her paws with a hiss of fury. "You did what?" she almost screeched. The leader was so angry that she blocked out the last part of what he said from her mind. The only thing that her mind had caught was that he had killed another she-cat and caused another war with ThunderClan. Her fangs were bared. "Dirtfur, what were you thinking? How could you have made the same mistake twice? Do you ever think at all?" Spottedstar spat on the ground in rage.

The brown tom was on the ground even more, looking nothing but a dark brown pancake.

He was whining, and whimpering. He didn't like SpottedStar mad or angry, and since of all her fury, he said nothing. All he did was whine. All he did was Whimper. All he did was shiver and shake.

His fur prickled with tension and shame, not liking himself anymore. He hated himself. He hated what he became. He hated everything that he was doing. He should of died at birth!

Bleed It Out

Spottedstar turned and snarled at the she-cat. "Keep quiet, Shadowheart." Her quarrel was with Dirtfur, and she didn't feel like letting it go. Her head whipped back to him. "And stop whimpering! It's so pathetic." Her lips were curled back. "What could you possibly have been thinking?" she repeated. "I've been sticking my neck out for you, not kicking you out for what you've done. Was I wrong? StarClan knows I must have been." The leader began pacing her den with prickling paws.

DirtFur was still shivering, his pelt bristling with shame.

"S-S-SpottedStar! S-She a-a-attacked m-me!"

He looked up, his eyes watery, with tears running down his furry cheeks.

"Do you think I wanted to do that? Enjoyed doing that?"

He suddenly zoomed out of the depression state, and was now furious.

He rose to his paws, his fur no longer bristling with shame, but with anger. His claws were unsheathed, scraping against the ground.

"Kick me out. I don't care anymore! You seem to be ignoring the details, only worrying about what happened last. I didn't mean to!"

He was now pacing back and forth, ears flattening against his head. He was furious, fur prickling with anger.

Give Me Some Answers

Spottedstar shook her head. "I took that excuse last time, Dirtfur, that you didn't mean to do it. But how can you not mean to kill a cat and do it anyway?" Her tail lashed out behind her. Oh, she'd like to kick him out. She'd like to be done with him and the problems he brought down upon ShadowClan. But if he left, would Shadowheart? If she did, how many of her kits would leave with her? She could be exiling possibly five cats because of one. But she also didn't want to have to exile any cat. The she-cat still wanted to believe that Dirtfur was a good, loyal warrior. How could she now? "Dirtfur, what do you expect me to do? What do you want me to do? Welcome you back like a hero?"

DirtFur padded over to SpottedStar, his eyes narrowed.

"SpottedStar. What was I supposed to do to the she-cat? She attacked me. She tried to kill me.

Was I supposed to let her kill me?"

He snarled in her face, his dark brown tail lashing out behind him.

"No. Not accept me back as a hero. I understand now. I'm a killer, right? Is that what you think now? Is that what I am?"

The tom stared tauntingly at the leader. He was fed up with her. He was fed up with himself. He was fed up with everything in general.

"SpottedStar. I know you were not there. Maybe if you did come with me, you would of witnessed everything that happened!"

I'll Fight It

Spottedstar met his gaze with fire in her amber eyes. Another thing she couldn't stand about this tom- he had no respect. "A killer? How can I say no when the blood is right there on your paws. A warrior doesn't have to kill to win a battle. You could have fought her off without a death blow." The she-cat had to focus on not letting her claws slip out. She wanted this whole thing to end reasonably, but neither cat would back down. "And don't you dare try to turn this back on me. If you had just waited this whole thing could have been avoided!"

DirtFur hissed.

"TangleStar was there, angered me, and my claws slipped out on her throat on accident! You know how I get! I had my paw on her throat, not that hard, to where she couldn't get up, then TangleStar had to provoke me!"

His tail lashed back and forth, claws still scraping upon the earth that was below his pads.

"Oh? What if it was an invasion? If I wasn't there, to try to stop it, this whole clan might of been wiped out, depending on what would happen!"

The tom's eyes narrowed, a growl rumbling out of his throat.
