Just a relaxing hunt and chat {Clear&Flaring}

Flaringmist lay down in a pool of sunlight, closing his eyes blissfully. He had given his apprentice, Heartpaw, a day off, and this also meant that he could relax. He felt the newleaf sun soaking into his golden brown coat, warming his muscles, relaxing them. He let out a purr of relief.

The she-cat had things on her mind, not really sure what really was to begin with. Her mind was thinking of TigerStorm, for he was being so friendly with Aphrodite. What did she care?

The black she-cat hissed at herself, trekking on her way in the camp. Then, a familar scent wafted in her nose. It was FlaringMist's.

She decided to try her tracking skills, hoping that it would succeed. If it did, she wondered if FlaringMist would bother telling SpottedStar that CareFeather did well.

When she was behind him, she pounced on his back, claws sheathed, grinning wildly.

"Grrr!"

Flaringmist went down in a thump, mind racing. He had been caught completely unawares, and he gritted his teeth at the thought of the consequence. "Rawrg!" he hissed, standing back with his hair on end and prepared to claw at whoever attacked him.
"Oh," Flaringmist meowed, almost disappointed. "Hi, Carefeather. You scared me." He settled back down.

She giggled, settling down beside the tom. She gave him a soft smile, and then frowned.

"I hope I didn't hurt you."

She looked down, and sighed.

"Sorry, I've been wanting to try to show off my warrior skills... I want an apprentice soon!"

She frowned a bit. She wasn't sure if she should of said that, she really shouldn't of.[/center]

Flaringmist shook his head, the sunlight striking the ginger streak down his forehead. "Not at all," he rumbled. "And I'm sure you'll get one soon." He cast his mind back to the day he received his own apprentice, and his pelt prickled slightly and he remembered how unenthusiastic he was to start with. "They're not as hard to look after as the other warriors make out."

CareFeather sighed, closing her eyes slightly. She was silent for moments, not really sure what to think. She wanted an apprentice, quite badly. It would prove that she was actually worth something.

"I don't want to be a warrior though, I wanted to be a Medicine cat to begin with.."

She slipped that out, but then looked away.

Flaringmist stretched out his muzzle comfortingly without thinking, before quickly retracting it. "It's okay," he whispered. "I'm sure you'll get an apprentice soon." He couldn't think of anything else to say, and guilt swamped him. He didn't even want an apprentice to begin with, and now this cat who did want one couldn't get one.

The black cat sighed, resting her head upon her front paws, her eyes slowly closing. She wasn't sure what to say next, for she could tell she was making him uneasy.

"Sorry, I should keep my thoughts to myself."

Fear-Scent was coming off of her, only because she was really afraid of what she was going to say was going to be the wrong one. She usually always did, and she hated it.

She sighed; she was really confused right now, about so many things.[/center]

"It's okay," he murmured. This time he did touch her, touching her flank gently with his muzzle. But again he drew away quickly, meaning it only as a symbol of friendship and comfort between two Clanmates. "I understand what it can be like to feel lost."

She looked up at him with a puzzled look. How could he know? He didn't want to be a medicine cat, she knew that for sure! He was actually probably quite glad he was a warrior, and probably faking this whole comfort thing.

She groaned, looking away. Her ears were flat against her noggin, her head back on her paws.

"How? You don't want to be a medicine cat, at least you get to be what you want! I'm stuck like this."[/center]

"I never said that I wanted to be a medicine cat!" he snapped, and instantly regretted it. In a calmer voice he continued. "I said that I knew what it was like to feel lost." He drew away from her, settling about a tail length away in the hunting crouch. "Now quiet, I think I can scent mouse."

Right when he snapped at her, her ears flattened against her head tightly. She didn't like yelling; She hated it when it was towards her.

Before he got in a hunting crouch, she shouted back.

"I bet you didn't! I know that you don't!"

She hissed, then went to imediate quiet when he spoke. She mumbled to herself quietly, looking away.[/center]

Flaringmist let out a soft growl and leaped without thinking. He landed clumsily, but managed to race after the escaping mouse in time to spear it with a single claw. The mouse went limp, and he carried it back to the she-cat in his mouth.
"How do you know?" he snarled, dropping the prey before sitting beside it. "You're not me."

The she-cat looked at him, her ears still flat against her head.

"Why would you want to be one? I can tell by how you act."

Her tail lashed back and forth behind her, but then looked away.

"Not like it matters, you probably just think I'm a mouse-brained fool for wanting to be a Medicine cat..."

She sighed, looking down at the ground, feeling rather miserable even more.[/center]

Flaringmist's fur bristled on his back. "Again, I never said I wanted to be a stupid medicine cat!" he snarled, eyes flashing. "I SAID I knew what it was like to be lost!" He stood up. "But I guess you're just another one of those stupid she-cats who thinks everything's about them," he spat, picking up his prey.
Inside he felt guilty - he didn't usually lose his temper like this.
