Leafheart sat quietly next to the nursery watching Lavanderpaw. She had noticed that as the days passed her daughter had gotten more and more bitter and whenever some unfortunate soul crossed her they got an earful of pain. She hated watching her daughter grow colder and colder but what more could a mother do for a child in pain. She could not do anything more for her mourning daughter except hope that they could both move on and accept a new mate and father. Thoughts of newer better times filled Leafheart's head as she daydreamed of a new mate and more beautiful kits.

Shadowheart padded over to her good friend, she sat beside her and mewed, "You OK?" she asked.

Leafheart frowned when the word ok registered in her brain. "No.", she whimpered burrowing her face into Shadowheart's shoulder. She felt like she had been chewed up and spit out. "I wish that I had a tom to move on with and get Tigerfang out of my head and heart.", she whined truely wishing Starclan would send her a mate that was perfect for her and that would also make Tigerfang jealous.

Shadowheart leaned into her, purring softly, "I tried to tell you Tigerfang was no good." she sighed, "But there are plenty toms, I found Dirtfur, you can find your true mate."

Leafeart frowned when she thought of the perfect mate. How many times was she going to try at a perfect tom and get a worthless mouse. "I have tried twice and have no hope for myself. Shadowheart what can I do?", she cried licking her friend.

"You need to find a tom under your terms, not the ones they set. Tigerfang forced you to be his mate, you need to find a tom like you, not one covered with blood. Even if you need to look outside your boundary." she mewed.

Leafheart looked around nervously. Who was like her? She was confused and lost and wasn't even sure she was supposed to have a mate. "I know Tigerfang was horrible but I loved him! Where would I even start?", she asked confiding in one of her closest friends.

Shadowheart sighed, "Start by forgetting Tigerfang like he forgot about you, try to remember the days when you were without him, when you were free. Then maybe someone will come along.

"How can life ever be that easy to just stumble upon a mate?", she asked cunfused. She felt so lost and alone in a dark storm of pain.

"It happens, trust me. You can't find love, love finds you. Love isn't a piece of fresh-kill you need to catch for the clan, love is that big piece at the top you want for you and another cat to share, you can't hunt it. You just have to look and take whatever opportunities you find to get it."

Leafheart burrowed her head beneath her paws. Great she had to wait it had to find her. What if it never did?", she worried sadly. "Thank you.", she sighed licking her friend. She had never felt more frustrated ever yet she felt a sort of peace.

Shadowheart shugged, "I am going to go hunting, get some extra fresh-kill." she mewed, then bounded out of sight.
