The stillness, and ever so startling silence, had finally nagged on Blazestorm's last nerve. Camp had been quiet the last few days, compared to earlier times. Everyday seemed to be dragging endlessly on. The solution to such boredom presented itself to Blazestorm, soon after returning from the routine, hunting patrol. Instead of being stuck in camp all day, how about I take a little stroll out on the Moor Hill? A cool breeze ruffled Blazestorm's fur, as he padded along the hill; deep in thought as he ever was before. He enjoyed taking short walks around WindClan territory. It was most always very peaceful, with the warmth of the sun's rays and freshness of the moor air. Of course, disturbance did rear it's head often enough, however, today was not one of those days. Blazestorm could feel the prickle in his paws and the excitement in his whiskers. Something exciting would happen this day. "I just hope to be a part of it!"
Cinderpaw was out on her usual walk. Today felt fresh great warm. Three of the best words she's said in awhile. Soon she came to a halt and caught Blazestorm's scent. She grinned and started to follow it. She kept saying in her mind 'I am speeed. Speed.'. She caught sight of him and dashed forward. She leaped high into the air hoping to land squarley on his back this should work.
Silvermist followed Cinderpaw's scent to take her on a short patrol with just her and Cinderpaw. She finally found Cinderpaw crouched in the grass. When Cinderpaw dashed forward she looked more up the moor to see Blazestorm. In her mind she was like 'Oh no not again...'. She saw Cinderpaw leap into the air. What would happen next.
Blazestorm, lost in thought, did not sense the apprentice flying towards him. It happened to be a bad habit of his, thinking. This left him wide open plenty of times. By the time he was back to reality, Cinderpaw was nearly on top of him. "Ack!" he exclaimed, falling back. His fur was standing slightly on end. "Cinderpaw! What do you think you're doing?" Blazestorm tried to quickly gather himself up, loose grass dangling from his fur. He glanced towards the apprentice, and with a playful look in his eye whispered, "Next time, try to catch me when I'm not daydreaming. Then we can really go at it!" He enjoyed playing with the apprentices. It brought back many a memory. "Are you out here by yourself or..." Just as he began, he scented Silvermist not too far off. Blazestorm looked up and nodded in greeting. "Hello Silvermist. Are you two out on patrol?"
Cinderpaw hit her paw on the ground and said "Mousedung I almost had you!". She was furious with herself. She could've had him. The second he asked if she was out here alone then stopped she knew Silvermist was there. But she caught a scent he didn't notice Patchpool. She covered herself in mud to hide her scent from him. Cinderpaw looked back at Silvermist and waved her tail to show a greeting. She knew Silvermist saw the whole thing. Patchpool's scent was totally covered by warriors but apprentices had strong noses when they are young. She waited patiently for Patchpool to attack and for Silvermist to get up here.
Patchpool was only leaving camp when she caught Silvermist, Cinderpaw, and Blazestorm's scent. She grinned happily. She quickly ran around the territory to find a mud puddle. She found the perfect one. She rolled in it for what feltt like forever. Soon she jumped up and shook her pelt so it was spiky grinned happily and bounced off in the direction of Blazestorm. She finally caught sight of him far up the hill. She crouched in the grass and went up the hill slowly soon she saw Cinderpaw jump on him but miss. She grinned Cinderpaw would be the perfect distraction. She knew Cinderpaw caught her scent but she didn't mind.
Patchpool crept up the hill slowly she was so close yet so far away. She had to make sure she landed squarly on top of him. She was in the right position when Cinderpaw caught her scent. She had Blazestorm this time. She jumped in the air quietly and then when she was very close she let out a high pitched screech of triumph. Hoping she would land right on top of him. This was brialliant it had to work he was right in front of her.
Silvermist pawed her way up the hill slowly and smiled when Cinderpaw picked up a different scent. She yelled back at Blazestorm to answer his question "Actually I came looking for Cinderpaw to take her on a short patrol right now. You could come if you like.". She finally got to the top of the hill when she saw her friend Patchpool jump from the grass.
Patrol? Sure, why not? "Umph!" Just as he was about to answer the she-cat, Blazestorm was hurled to the ground, a shriek of triumph resounding within his ears. As he fumbled to stand, partially covered in mud, he could not help but berate himself for allowing another attack. Today is not my day. After clearing the mud that had shot up his nose, Blazestorm looked for his attacker. "Patchpool," he meowed in a solemn tone, "From an apprentice, I can understand, but a warrior?" He shook his pelt, the excess mud splashing onto the ground. Blazestorm was not angry at Patchpool. He, too, had his moments. Of course, he had always made the mistake to try and pull one over the "not-so-understanding" warriors in his Clan. He cuffed Patchpool's ear in a way to say he was only joking. He turned to Silvermist. "Patrol sounds pretty good right now." Blazestorm chuckled, "Looks like I need to practice keeping up my guard, anyway. That makes two attacks today I was not prepared for." He shook his head with a smile. "Does this mean I should train with the apprentices again, Cinderpaw? You have any room for me in that den?"[/blockquote]
Patchpool jumped off him so she didn't kill him. That would be kind of sad if she did kill him. She heard the patrol question so before Blazestoorm answered she decided to. She saiid in her squeaky kit yell-like voice "I'll go on patrol with you Silvermist!". She was bored and had nothing to do. Plus she liked being around Silvermist and Cinderpaw. She skipped down to Silvermist just as Blazestorm was giving his answer. She was surprised Blazestorm said 'Yes' because that didn't seem like him to go on patrol with a group of girls. Although it was kinda funny at the same time.
Cinderpaw skipped down to Silvermist for patrol. She was excited for many reasons. One because her test to become a warrior was coming up and two because Patchpool pounced on Blazestorm. It was super funny she was still laughing inside. She waited for Patchpool and Blazestorm to get down here. By the time she looked from her paws to thhem Patchpool was already down here. Now it was just Blazestorm they were waiting on. She couldn't believe she would be a warrior soon. She grinned happily. Would she pass even she might.
Silvermist sat patiently waiting for them to come down while Cinderpaw was already down here. She knew Cinderpaw was a fast runner and Patchpool. She nodded to Patchpool and Blazestorm as they said yes they would come. She got up and stretched so she was ready for the patrol. Shhe knew patrol was gonna be long and she wasn't to surprised. She decided they would just do Riverclan border to make this easier. So she asked "How does riverclan border sound?".
Blazestorm nodded. "RiverClan border sounds good." While most would find it odd for one tomcat to be with a group of she-cats, Blazestorm did not have a problem with it. He did not base a feline's restrictions or attributes on their gender. As Blazestorm padded beside his clanmates, he noticed the excitement coursing through Cinderpaw's whiskers. "You're close to becoming a warrior, correct?" He remembered how excited he had been about his warrior ceremony. Of course, he would never show it. Blazestorm was a very solemn cat; always serious. It was out of character to see him bounding about with joy. Blazestorm's pelt began to prickle, his ear twitched. They were close to the border now, the scent of RiverClan cats washing over him. Yuck! he thought, grunting his distaste, "I do not think I could ever get use to that smell." He parted his jaw, taking in his surroundings. Blazestorm could not help but think something seemed off. He glanced towards Silvermist and Patchpool, saying his thoughts aloud, "Does something feel, I do not know, off?"
Patchpool rolled down the hills. She was bored walking all the way down to Riverclan border. Wasn't there something to keep a cat busy! She rolled and rolled til they came to the Riverclan border. She was waved her tail back and forth really fast. She thought in her head 'Fianlly this would've been forever~!'. She hated the distance from camp to riverclan border. When Blazestorm said 'Does something feel, I do not know, off?'. She sniffed the air carefully but nothing seemed out of place. The border smelled like normal fish and moors. She turned to Blazestorm with a confused face and said "I do not smell anything... unusual!". She was choosing her words carefully for her sentence so i didn't sound like she had no idea what she was saying.
Cinderpaw pranced along with Patchpool and rolled down the hills in a race. She loved rolling down the hills while walking. She loved the moors the fresh scent of grass. It was way better then the fish scent of Riverclan. She came to a stop on the last hill before the Riverclan border came into sight. She ran down the hill instead of rolling. Waiting for the others to come. She waited patiently until she heard Blazestorm's voice com into her thoughts "Does something feel, I do not know, off?". She was gonna put in her comment but Patchpool beat her there.
Blazestorm shrugged. Maybe, I am just overreacting? Whether he was or not, he still remarked WindClan's border. Better safe than sorry. he thought. Padding a long the border, he turned to the others. "What have you three been up to, anyway? Nothing, I presume?" Blazestorm was an awkward tom, when it came to conversation. He really had a hard time with it. "I mean, it has been real slow in camp this week..."Why do you even try, Blazestorm? Now it sounds as if you are accusing them of being lazy! If anyone was lazy, it would be you, mousebrain![/blockquote]
An orange pelt snaked it's way through the moors, following the scent of the markers put down along Riverclan territory and Windclan territory. She didn't trust the fish brains to not come over since the flood. Their camp was near the swollen river and if anymore rain came this she-cat knew for sure they'd come seeking shelter anywhere with high land. Unfortunately for Windclan, their territory had high elavation and was merely soggy from the flood after the waters had somewhat calmed. They would be perfect targets for any animal seeking refuge from nature's wrath.
Her ears pricked as she heard voices nearby. Quickly, she made her way towards them, curious as to why they were here. That question went away as she detected their scents. It was her fellow clan members following the borders and remarking them. Pride swelled into her chest as she began to run as fast as she could towards them, a little too bouncy as if she was a kit. Swiftstar wasn't really in a hurry to get towards them, but she loved the feel of the wind on her pelt so she had let loose, tearing through the grass.
When she reached about a length from them she slowed to a walk and pricked her ears, catching the last bit of what Blazestorm had said. Entering with delicate paw steps so as not to get the wet grass all over her, she came into view. Her green eyes shone as she looked at the group gathered here, trying to keep their clan safe.
She took in what was going on and a smile came upon her mouth as a purr of laughter erupted. "I know what you mean, Blazestorm," she meowed as she looked over Riverclan's border real quick before turning her attention back to the group assembled.
Patchpool pawed the ground her boredom taking over. She loved patrolling borders but today was so boring. She had to find something to do after this. But there was only so much a cat could do... She was not in the mood for walking. She ran ahead only catching a whiff of Swiftstar's scent. She still ran ahead though not minding if Swiftstar thought she was ignoring her. She paws her way up a hill then catching Riverclan scent. Her fur started to bristle but then she let it lay flat. She had alot to think about for one. Every she-cat had to think about this. Who was she gonna pick for a mate. She had alot of choices but she wanted hers to be the most perfect tom. She put that to the back of her head and looked down the hill as Swiftstar walked up to the group.
Cinderpaw was bouncing excitedly around Blazestorm and Silvermist. She was super excited to finally patrol after so long. She started to run around instead of bounce. She stopped right beside Silvermist and walked forward. She noticed as Swiftstar came up behind the group by her voice. She turned around and said a greeting to Swiftstar "Hi Swiftstar. How are you today?". Cinderpaw was in a very good mood today since the weather was perfect.
Blazestorm faced his leader and gave her a quick nod. His face flushed when Swiftstar mentioned she understood him. At least he did not feel quite as foolish as before. He quickly reported what the group had been doing, what they had noticed. "And I thought I smelled something 'fishy', but-", Blazestorm paused a second, looking past the cats in front of him and focusing on Patchpool in the distance. He noticed her fur stand on end and settle again. What was that about? When he noticed her turn back around and pad towards them, Blazestorm quickly gazed back to his leader, "...I, uh, but the others did not seem to think it worth much..." His tail twitched, slightly. He glanced a way, thinking, It probably was not a concern for us, considering she took her time coming back... Whether he was genuinely worried, or just itching for some excitement, Blazestorm did not know.
Patchpool's immediate leaving of the vicinity made the orange tabby she-cat give a curious look towards her before bringing her full attention back the cats in front of her. Silvermist and Cinderpaw were here and she smiled, glad to know that her warriors were continuing their duties. At Cinderpaw's bouncy greeting, Swiftfire met the apprentice's gaze. "Hello to you too. I'm doing alright and just wanted to check up on how you all were doing," she meowed happily while directing her attention towards Blazestorm and the other cats. The tom seemed to be the leader of this patrol and she wanted to know everything he'd seen.
He didn't disappoint her after giving a nod and then reporting. She listened attentively and almost chuckled at the idea of something smelling 'fishy' near Riverclan territory, but she knew what he had meant. As approaching paws behind them signaled Patchpool's return, Blazestorm finished.
Mulling over the news for a bit, Swiftstar looked down into the Riverclan territory with distaste. "Thank you for the report Blazestorm, especially the bit about something being a bit off," she said as she took in the tom. The others on the patrol hadn't sensed anything wrong, but he had and that stood out to Swiftstar more than she could say. If only she had known then what Riverclan would be planning to do a while from now as the rains came back again.
"It's alright to feel a bit tense about Riverclan, especially since the flood caused rivers to swell. The water clan lives by a river and Starclan knows what trouble it's causing them. Right now, it's best to stay on alert, especially with border patrols," she explained. It hurt to know that her homeland was being threatened more so than ever before and she felt helpless, not being able to do anything other than wait for the ground to dry once more and the rivers to sink back into their shores.
Blazestorm nodded in agreement. While this flood may have restricted RiverClan, it also gave them the advantage of seeking out more land. WindClan had to be careful. As he mulled over Swiftstar's words, Blazestorm asked, "Will you be joining us, Swiftstar?" After a slight pause, he quickly added to the other patrolling she-cats, "I mean, if it is alright with you three, that is." After all, it would be great privilege to be on patrol with the WindClan leader. Not only did he take this into consideration, but also the fact something did seem inexcusably mysterious around the RiverClan border. Anything they found would need to be reported to Swiftstar immediately, and with her attending the patrol, it saved an extra step in the course of things. Blazestorm seemed proud of his thought, thinking that it may produce to be a grand experience one way or another. He never had the chance to patrol or hunt with any leader, before. Of course, they were busy doing other duties around the clan, and their schedules never matched up with his. Maybe I will have the chance, today.[/blockquote][/size]
Silvermist was quiet for most of the patrol. As they neared the riverclan border she heard Blazestorm say something smelled fishy. She tried not to laugh and she didn't. She sniffed the air quietly noticing it to and was about to agree when Patchpool said nothing smelled wrong. She didn't say anything after that not wanting to cause a fight between the strange scent on Windclan territory. She continued to walk a little farther before she noticed Swiftstar. She wondered why the leader was around this territory. She didn't care though it wasn't her buisness.
She looked at Swiftstar and bowed her head. She would never be rude to the leader. vShe listened to Swiftstar put in her comments about Riverclan and the floods. She kept her ears perked for anymore comments. She turned to Patchpool as Patchpool ran up the hill and started to bristle. She guessed Patchpool finally noticed the scent but decided not to show it because apparently she laid her fur flat quickly. Cinderpaw probably noticed it but pretended not to. She knew her best friend and apprentice very well.
