Light, small paws padded along the wet marsh. The young she-cat stopped for a moment and closed her eyes, her nostrils taking in the the murky scents about her. To some other Clan cat, it didn't smell great and the mud beneath their paws would disgust them. To her, it was just what she liked. The soft mud beneath her paws was wet and smooth, not too rough for her tastes. The medicine cat grew up in ShadowClan and spent much time in the marshes of their territory.
Rainfall sighed lightly and craned her neck down to stare at her paws. Her right paw, the only paw that was white had now turned brown from the murky water and mud. She lifted her brown, tabby head and moved forward once again. If she kept her eyes open and was observant, maybe she could find a few herbs that she missed earlier.
Graywing woke up the following morning. It was cold and humid but the air felt good. He got up slowly and left the den and smelled the air. He noticed that Rainfall left the camp. He decided he would follow her scent to see if she needed help. The pines smelled good and the needls caught a whiff of her scent. He walked through the pines til he got to the marsh. It was wet and a boggy also it was cold. This place was like a swamp but he didn't mind. He smelled alot of different plants around here and he was able to single out Rainfall's scent from them. She had a different scent of herbs on her.
He walked through the swampy boggs slowly making sure he was following the right scent. With all these herbs he could very well get mixed up on which scent was hers. Although that would be kinda sad for a warrior cat. He finallt found a fresh scent of her and found her sniffing for herbs around the bog.
The strong scent of one of her clan-mates wafted about her. The she-cat craned her neck to the side just as she identified the cat. Her small tongue flicked her nose and retreated back into her closed muzzle as a slight purr escaped from within her throat. Light blue eyes brightened at the company as she straightened herself. "Glad you could join the lonesome party, Graywing," she purred faintly and made her way over. Rainfall's gaze watched him with sweet ease as her slim body made it's way through the tall, marshy grass.
Graywing walked out from the trees to meet her halfway knowing it would be rude to make her walk the whole way. He stopped and looked around noticing some herbs but not knowing them by name. He was not made to be a medicine cat he would be a bad one. He looked at Rainfall dipping his head slightly and saying "It's good to be outside. What are you doing looking for herbs down here though?". A amused purr escaped his throat a low deep purr though. He sniffed around a smelled a stronger scent of herbs besides hers. He nodded at Rainfall and looked up at the sky.
He was a little irritated it looked like another storm was coming. Like their bogs weren't boggy enough. But it didn't bother him much as a Shadowclan cat. The only cats that would be bothered would be the other clans. this was his home he was used to all the pines and bogs. Her sweet herb scent waftted around him. Hers always smelt good to him but they tasted gross.
Rainfall lifted her muzzle and sniffed the murky air. The familiar scent of herbs was strong. Her ear twitched when a small leaf nearby grazed the side. Her attention was moved back to Graywing once he had spoken and she smiled lightly in response. "Actually, I'm taking a break from herb hunting. I already had gathered everything I needed earlier. I just decided to go for a small walk." The medicine cat gave him a quizzical gaze before she lifted her right paw and began to lick the mud off the white fur.
Rainfall paused for a moment and with a small flick of her tail, she continued, "I assume you were actually doing your duty and hunting, am I right?" Her tone was light and sweet, but had a hint of accusation as if she sensed that hunting was not his reason for running out into the marsh.
Graywing lifted one paw in turn and shook them but away so they didn't shake mud at Rainfall. He looked at each paw after he shook them then back up at Rainfall. When she started talking again and asked about hunting he purred amused. He shook his head while saying "Actually I wasn't hunting I woke up and just came out into the marsh. I had nothing planned really. If I did I wouldn't be in a swampy marsh hunting for food.". He purred again his low deep purr. He didn't mind Rainfall being curious on why he was out here and he wasn't really surprised.
He flicked his tail side to side slowly and twitched his ear. He was hungry though now that he thought about it. He would go hunting after talking to Rainfall because hhe didn't want to leave her here. That would be rude and un-warrior like. He stared at Rainfall with his straight gaze. Then looked back at where he came from. His paw prints were gone because of the mud...
The she-cat flicked her tongue at her paw once again and noticed how the mud easily came off, the white of her paw showing once again. Once the medicine cat finished, she placed her paw back on the soft ground. Well so much for that, her paw was just going to go all murky brown again. Oh well, she can clean it again later when she got back to camp. Rainfall found herself purring lightly as she began to walk again, her long tail streaming behind her. A strong breeze brush her light brown tabby fur against her body and brought along with it different scents. Some old and others quite strong.
Rainfall turned her head slightly to the side so she could glance at Graywing. "There's some prey nearby if you'd like to hunt, a warrior should never go on an empty stomach." The she-cat then looked straight ahead with her light blue eyes and continued to walk through the marsh.
Graywing ran with Rainfall for a bit through the pines, Til she came to a stop then he stopped himself right beside her. The breeze felt nice when he was running. He was a little upset that she stopped running. But he wasn't gonna let it get to him. When she suggested that he go get something to eat he looked at her and nodded. He ran off into the pines. A scent of prey wafted around him. He found to mice sitting on a root. He caught to of them but one escaped. He brought them both back and set one down by Rainfall. She needed to eat so he decided to giv her a mouse. He layed down in a shady cool spot and began to eat. The mouse was warm and delicious. He was glad to caught two of them. He looked at Rainfall and smiled.
The medicine cat watched as Graywing bounded off towards the scent of the prey. Her eyes scanned the area slowly before she sat down and waited patiently. The young tabby stared down at the mud below her and slightly dug into the ground with a paw. This area that she had ran off to wasn't as muddy as the other half they were on before, but still muddy nonetheless.
Rainfall lifted her head when the warrior came back not long after with two catches trapped within his jaws. The familiar and delicious scent wafted along her nostrils and caused her to sigh. "You know," she began once he placed one in front of her paws, "I'm quite capable of catching my own prey, I may be a medicine cat but I am not completely skilless at hunting," she mused and leaned down to rip at the catch. The food was delicious.
Graywing stared at the mouse. He was completely still for a minute. He wasn't paying much attention when he heard her say 'I'm quite capable of catching my own prey, I may be a medicine cat but I am not completely skilless at hunting.' He knew she wasn't skilless at hunting he just wanted to get her food for her. She was easy to be around. She was polite, but he looked at her and said "I know you can hunt, but I decided to bring you one since I caught two. Besides I wouldn't want to be a pig and eat them both.". Then he finished his mouse and licked his paws.
The light brown tabby she-cat ripped and tore at her prey as she ate it. The warm meat slid down her throat deliciously, and once she finished she licked her chops with a light purr. Rainfall turned her gaze to the tomcat before her as he spoke. "I know you can hunt, but I decided to bring you one since I caught two. Besides I wouldn't want to be a pig and eat them both." She nodded in response to his answer and sat up from her crouched position once she was finished eating.
The medicine cat dipped her head, "Thank you for the meal though, I greatly appreciate it." A smile graced her lips as she sat and watched him, her tail curled around her paws lightly before she spoke again. "Though, I wouldn't be surprised or mind much at all if you were a pig and decided to eat both," she laughed lightly. It would be completely in character for a tom to do that, as everyone knew that deep inside they would love to eat as much as they could. All the prey they had caught. However, many of them are very much gentlemen.
Graywing drew his paw over his ear and licked his chops in turn then stood up. His tail flicked from side to side again as he looked towards camp. He decided he would catch something on the way to camp to bring back. He stretched his legs then shook his pelt. He then opened his mouth in a big gaping yawn. He woke up way to early for him. He sniffed the air quietly and looked around. There was few prey since the flood came all of it was leaving. It annoyed him so much. How were they to feed the clan if prey kept disappearing. He twitched his ears and looked at Rainfall quietly. She sat there patiently it amused him.
Wasn't she tired of sitting around all day at camp it was weird she wasn't she wasn't standing. He thought she would like to get out and excersize while everyone was mainly asleep. Well that wasn't his buisness. He asked "Why do you sit now when you sit almost all day at camp?". He didn't understand some cats but that wasn't his problem. He licked his paw and drew it over hiis ear again then gave his chest fur a couple of licks.
"Why do you sit now when you sit almost all day at camp?"A small smile ghosted across her muzzle and her light blue eyes glowed with light amusement. "Actually, to you my job probably isn't all that exciting either. I am quite used to just sitting around, especially when sorting herbs. Patience is the key to being a medicine cat." Rainfall answered truthfully, her tone sweet and kind. She was in a very good mood today. Though she didn't know why, but she guessed it could have been the warm and clear weather lately.
There has been no rain for the past few days, prey running plenty. At least what she knew of considering the large piles in camp and by how quick she can catch a prey scent even when out on the marsh. The she-cat then stood and shook whatever mud she felt she had on her fur, off and turned her head to slightly groom her side. She wasn't a perfectionist, she could honestly care less about mud on her fur. She grew up in ShadowClan and lived on the marsh, so why would she care? The light brown tabby glanced down at the mud and took a small scoop before she devilishly looked at Graywing, then flung it at him. A light laugh escaped her as she broke in a swift run.
Graywing contnued to lick his paw and draw it over his ear. He looked at Rainfall and smiled sheepishly. He wasn't used to being around she-cats all the time. He listened to her as she talked about patience. Then he saw her pick up mud and he got alarmed. He was able to jump out of the way just in time. He ran straight after her when she took off. He couldn't believe she would throw mud at him. When he got his paw on her she would be cleaning her fur for days on end. He raced through the trees faster than lightning. She wouldn't escape him as a medicine cat. He caught up to her and ran at her side he flung mud at her while he was running. Then came to a aburpt stop to keep her from throwing mud at him.
Rainfall sped up her sprint when she realized that he had taken off after her and was quickly catching up. She breathed in the thick, humid air as the force of the wind pushed her fur back, keeping it flat against her body. The she-cat parted her muzzle and as light laugh escaped. She hadn't had this much fun and action in a long time. She was a medicine cat, she never had time to fool around as her job was very serious. She took it very seriously as well.
There were times where she even had bad days with her job. Those days mostly included losing a cat she was treating to StarClan or just getting up and feeling plain old moody. Rainfall glanced at the corner of her eye and gasped when the moment she realized he was running right next to her, a blob of mud splat right in her face. It was only then that she was forced to stop running, not only because she had to wipe the mud out of her eyes, but because of the face that Graywing had halted right in front of her. She looked back up and fixed him with her light blue gaze. "What's the matter? Don't want anymore mud flying your way?" She taunted with a light smile as she slyly picked up more mud with her mud covered paw.
