Minnow

Minnow was napping in her den, four kits curled up by her belly. She was the proud mother to Suki(Zim), Karei(Spots), Zurui(Riddles) and Dawn(Meh). She was unaware where Yakkai was right now but she never did seem to know.

Little Karei was purring contentedly at her mother's belly, having just finished her fill of wonderful milk. The grey she-kit blinked her green eyes and looked over to her three siblings with a smile. She felt as if she was waiting for something to happen- something to entertain her. But the she-kit stayed nicely curled up beside her mother, waiting for one of her siblings to make the first move.

Dawn light opens new days

Dawn had always seemed different from her siblings, she was quiet and jittery, always saw the glass half empty. But today was a new day and she felt livelier than ever. Her little tail began wagging and she jumped up, "Arf arf arf!" she barked, just then a huge shadow came and gave a tremendous growl. She yelped and ran around in circles.

Dawn wailed at her dream, coming back to reality. She shook her head, her large eyes wide with wonder. She bounded out from her spot and blinked, looking at her siblings.

Karei's ears flickered up at her sister's cry, confused and startled. "Dawn? What'sa matter?" she asked, reaching out to paw her sister's flank. "Are you okay?" Her green eyes blinked in concern. The cry had sounded so afraid, and the young she-kit couldn't imagine what it was from. Everything had been so peaceful.

Same old, Same olde

Dawn turned to her, "Oh, uhm... Justa b-bad dream..." she mewed, shuffling her paws in embarrassment. She watched her paws then shook it off, bouncing out of the den, her little tail dragging behind her.

Karei did the best attempt a cat could in raising a brow, which wasn't very good. But that didn't matter. The grey kit stood and shook out her fur, then bounded after her sister with curiosity leading her pawsteps. It was easy to get the young she-kit interested in something, but few things were able to hold that attention for very long.

Once she had caught up, Karei nudged her sister gently. "Do you wanna talk about it? You sounded pretty freaked." She blinked sympathetically, but she couldn't hide that sparkle of pure interest at the nightmare that tormented Dawn. It was higher on the priority list to know what it was about than the fact that it had startled her sibling so much.

Dawn flicked her ear and shook her pelt 'no', I'm not telling you she thought to herself. She Didn't say a word, just studied her sister for a moment before dashing towards the forest, the morning dew soaking her pelt and waking up her sences.

Karei watched wide eyed as her sister just shook her head in refusal and dashed off into the woods. What's up with her? she thought to herself. She didn't have to go running off like that. The grey kit just shrugged and sighed. "What a weirdo," she mewed lightly, already having lost interest in Dawn's problems and was now back to focusing on absolutely nothing in particular as she turned around and padded back to her mother and siblings. "She could have at least said something," she mewed, looking up at Minnow with a tired expression.

Just Go with the Flow

Minnow shook her head sleepily. She knew Dawn wouldn't stray far, and if she did it wasn't like Yakkai couldn't find her. She shook her head, "Just give her some space Karei." she nosed Zurei and Suki to their feet and stood up. She streched and found a plump mouse that she had caught that night. She laid on her side so the kits could suckle. "Come 'ere young ones. Have some milk." she had lots of milk to spare thanks to Yakkai and his 'gentle' care since her inprisonment.

Karei sighed again. She had lost complete interest in that matter. Now all that was on he mind was her mother's warm belly, and the delicious milk it contained. "Yeah, alright," she mewed, half yawning, and padded over to Minnow and the two other kits. The grey she-kit went ahead and squeezed between them, moving them aside so she had enough space to herself to get to the kit-milk. Karei suckled a bit, and let slip a full yawn, exposing her little sharp teeth. "Momma? Where's Daddy?" she asked.

I Don't No

Minnow sighed, she too wondered where Yakkai was. He never seemed to... well... be there. What he did while he was gone she didn't know. Sometimes it felt like there was another she-cat in his life. But she was so busy she often pushed it away. "Well, he is probably out hunting, or something." she murmured, "Don't worry about it love, drink your milk."
