Cedarclaw's eyes slowly widened. "Foxstar- but you, StarClan they..." Her claws tore at the earth as her mind swam. "I don't understand!" It came out as an unintentional growl. "Why didn't they... How can I keep this secret? Oh, I will, but why have you? This is too big!"

The she-cat looked at the ground, pressure gripping her fur.

"You have to. Or the clans will lunge at me first, the whole clan, thinking we are weak. I don't know why.."

She spat.

"There's other things as well.. That I can't stand! StarClan is punishing me, I swear!"

Confussion boiled over into rage. "But why should they? What could you have done wrong?" Cedarclaw was on her paws now. "Does this have to do with bumping your head, and everything else that's going on?" I'm no good with this! What do I do? What can I do?

The she-cat stared at her, pity in her eyes.

"I don't know.. and yes.. I have been down. This is something that no Medicine Cat could cure.."

She suddenly sat up, her chest poofed out in confidence, Her eyes no longer sparkled in pity, but in confidence as well.

"But, that won't stop me. I will be the best leader -- A leader who had one life, ever in Clan history!"

She yowled, but only enough to where it could echo only around the cave.

Cedarclaw had to hold back a wince of mixed pity and foreboding. She didn't like the sounds of it. It was good to hear the confidence in Foxstar's mew, but could her goal be possible if StarClan was against her? The tortoiseshell forced a small smile. "I hope so. I'll keep your secret. Don't give up just yet."

She looked down at CedarClaw, and gave her ear a lick in friendship.

Her ears flicked, looking over at an empty wall.

"Do you think I can reach my goal?"

Cedarclaw paused, then nodded. "I think you can. If you tell yourself it's possible, and believe it, it'll happen." She kept a high chin, a gleam in her eyes. "That's something I've told myself my whole life."

She smiled softly, and purred.

"You're right."

Why didn't I choose this cat as the deputy? Oh well.

She shrugged her shoulders, and stared at her.

A rare chuckled sounded from the warrior's throat. "That's something I don't hear often. But it's good to know." Cedarclaw dipped her head. "I'll try to continue earning that." She flicked her tail, then turned to pad out of the den.

She chuckled softly, and started to stare at nothingness.
