The Moon (Badgerpaw)

Moonpaw was laying in camp, it was Moon-high and her coat was gleaming.

Badgerpaw had up till now been lying wide awake in the apprentice's den, his bright amber eyes gleaming with excitement. He wasn't sure what it was that he was excited about, but that didn't matter. Finally he picked his way out of the den and out into the camp. The moonlight made his white fur silver and his black fur grey, making it seem like magic. His eyes shone as he looked around for something he didn't know, and found Moonpaw sitting a little ways off. His ears pricked happily, and he bounded over to her. "Hi, Moonpaw!" he called out, not worrying about awaking his Clanmates. "Whatcha doing out here?"

Moonpaw looked at her, her eyes wide and star-lite. "I am watching StarClan." she said. Her mind was in a deep peace...

Badgerpaw cocked his head and looked up at the sky. "Really?" he asked, curiously. He tried doing the same, but when nothing happened he lost his focus. The stars were pretty, but in the same place. "Um, why? I can't hear them or see them." He looked back to Moonpaw with question written on his black furred face.

Moonpaw shrugged, "Most Warriors cant." she said. "Only medicine cats really."

"Oh," he mewed, still not really understanding. All was quiet for a moment, until Badgerpaw felt the need to break it again. "So what are they telling you, Moonpaw?"

"Just to... to believe in myself. That I have a natural ability to tell right from wrong." she said blankly, staring at the sky. "StarClan can be mysterious, but somethings are too simple to be mysterious."

Badgerpaw sighed. "I dunno. Being a medicine cat sounds boring to me. Having to stay in a den all day and pick flowers when you go out. You guys are even allowed to have mates when you're older, right?"

Moonpaw sighed, "Yes, that is all true..." she said to herself. "But... its worth it."

Bagerpaw rolled his eyes. "I just don't get it. I mean, every other cat has a family after they're warriors. Medicine cats are so weird. They should be able to have fun, too."

"It is fun!" she protested. "I can have as much fun as you!"

The black and white tom shook his head. "Nu-uh! You can't go through battle training, or have a warrior mentor, or protect WindClan in battle. You can't know the feeling of being a warrior, ever. You can't become leader. You can't feel the warrior spirit." His bright amber eyes were shining now. "It's totally different. Better than just starring up at the stars all night."

Moonpaw shook her head, "If you knew what the stars said you wouldn't complain." she said softly.

"Well, I don't. So I'm happy with my life as an apprentice." He shrugged, not wanting to argue more. "Can medicine cats have friends, at least?"

"Yeah," she looked into his eyes. "Yeah, I can have friends."
