"Either back off, or go join RiverClan yourself!"

Things Have Changed

Badgerpaw's amber eyes widened, then narrowed into slits. What was Foxstar thinking? She'd been to the Gatherings, hadn't she? She should have heard RiverClan report their lost medicine cat and realized that she was wrong. But those thoughts weren't in the leader's head. The black and white tom recalled her 'illness' and realized that it must have taken a worse effect than he thought. "I'm no fish-eater," he growled, standing up to his full size, which was just as tall as Foxstar but with more body mass. He was no puny apprentice to be bullied around, even if she was his leader. He still held a flicker of resentment for never being made a warrior after all these moons. "I'm a WindClan cat, but I don't think RiverClan is fully responsible!"

FoxStar stared at him, ears flattening against her head.

"You dare challenge your leader? Back down, now!"

She snarled, her lips curling back in a snarl.

"If you fight with us, and show me your true loyalty, then you will be made warrior. You can count on that!"

That was partially true. She meant most, and she really was making him a warrior soon, very soon. Her eyes stared at him challengingly, her tail swishing back and forth.

You Found Me

She'd called his achilles heel. Badgerpaw wanted nothing more than to be a warrior at last, to join the ranks of the powerful fighters and hunters of WindClan. But the cost was high. His black ears fell back on his head. His heart and mind were struggling for control. But soon they gave out. The tom let his fur flatten out, and his eyes traveled away from those of Foxstar's. "Fine. I'll fight, and I'll show where my loyalties lie. But that will stay with WindClan. I'd never turn soft on those fish-eaters." His voice was a low growl. He knew he had chosen wrong, but how could he refuse the realization of his dream?

Battle Cry

Badgerpaw watched her leave, feeling horrid. I hope things work out. RiverClan wasn't the one who did wrong. The black and white tom shook his head and padded back into the medicine cat den. He sat beside Moonspirit, and looked at her with an unreadable expression. "Foxstar plans to attack RiverClan at dawn. If I didn't fight, she'd never make me a warrior. Maybe she'd even banish me." His claws worked the earth. He hated this. It wasn't in his nature to be unjust. The tom so badly wished he could nuzzle his mate, to somehow forget his troubles.
