A Little Help?(Moonpaw)

Badgerpaw came limping into camp with his left forepaw held high. His black-furred foot was twisted funny, a way it shouldn't have been able to. And to add to the mess, his patched pelt was ruffled and scraped. The apprentice tried to laugh it off, but that caused him to accidentally let his paw touch the ground. Pain shot up through his leg, and Badgerpaw yelped as he pulled it up again. Anxiously, he looked around towards the medicine cat's den. "Moonpaw?" he called out, wondering if his friend was in there.

Moonpaw padded up, yawning, but when she saw him her fur ruffled and she smiled. "Hello Baderpaw, what happened to your... uh... paw?" she stifled a giggle...

Badgerpaw's whiskers twitched. "Don't laugh! You wouldn't be laughing if you were in my position!" There was a smile in his eyes, hiding from his face. The black and white apprentice gave a little hop as he tried to stay balanced. "See, I was running after a mouse, right? I thought I could catch it before it got to it's hole, but it got there before me. I forgot to stop, and a fell down a hill and into the thorn patch." He looked down at his paw and grimaced. "I think I sprained it. Do ya think you could help?"

"Yes, its just a sprained paw." she rushed into her den and got some moss, quickly making a comfortable nest. "Lay down here, I can't examine a bouncing paw." she gestured her tail to the fresh nest.

With great difficulty, Badgerpaw tried to shift the rest of his weight on three paws. It had been easier when he had kept moving, but now he was stuck, as if his paws had been attached to the ground with bee honey. The tom swung forward and back on his remaining paws, then leap forward. Unfortunately the paws gave out, not ac costumed to leaping in such a way, and the black and white apprentice tumbled straight onto his skull. When he opened his amber eyes, he was laying on his flank with the world spinning around him. "Ow," he muttered. How did I get down here?

Moonpaw gasped and dragged him by his scruff into the nest. "Are you OK?" she gasped, her nose sniffing his paw carefully.

Badgerpaw groaned as he was dragged to the mossy nest. He heard a voice ask him a question, but he couldn't see who had asked it, nor could he guess at who it was. Whado I say? "M' fine," he mewed, looking up now as his vision slowly stopped spinning. Now the apprentice could see the she-cat standing over him. She looked awfully worried but the black and white tom just smiled and purred. "Wow, you're really pretty."

Moonpaw smiled as she blushed. She got up and shrugged, "Thank you." she said quietly. "But yes, your paw is sprained and you wont be training for a while, at least, not until its healed." she sighed, "That means that you'll be stuck here with me all day..." she shrugged and padded into her den for herbs.

Badgerpaw purred. His paw was hurt? If it was, he couldn't feel it. He rolled over onto his other flank so he could watch the pretty she-cat go farther into the den. The apprentice blinked, then smiled again. It was as if some little alarm had gone off in the back of his mind that he easily turned off. No importance. He flicked his tail, then called out to the other apprentice. "So are you going to keep me company?" he mewed, a bit drowzy.

"Like I'd take the effort to ignore you." she purred from in the den.

The confused apprentice purred again, this time rolling onto his back to look up at the roof of the den. "You're name's Moonpaw, right? Yeah, I remember that. I always thought it was really pretty. My name's not pretty. Nobody even likes badgers." The black and white tom frowned. "I like my name, but why do I have it if we don't like badgers?" He craned his neck to look at Moonpaw, upside down. "Do you like badgers?"

Moonpaw came back with poppy seeds, she laid them beside him. "I love Badgers." she purred. She took two poppy seeds with her paw and gave them to him, "Eat these." she said.

That made Badgerpaw smile. Then he looked down at the small black seeds and sniffed them. "What are these little things gunna do? They're so tiny!" Without waiting for Moonpaw to answer, the apprentice rolled back onto his side and licked them up quickly. He licked his lips. "They didn't taste bad."

She smiled, "They will dull the pain of your paw. But it doesn't seem like you need it anyway."

The apprenticed yawned, and he attemped to blink away the oncoming sleep from his eyes. It was a vain try. Badgerpaw gave himself a good, long stretch before looking up at Moonpaw again. He almost looked serious. "I like you Moonpaw. I really like you." Badgerpaw yawned again, and began to curl up in his nest, his eyes still barely open.
