Badgerstep twitched his whiskers as Violetkit began to wail as he bent over to pick up his son and daughter in his jaws. Feeling helpless, the warrior tried to purr softly through their furry scruffs in an attempt to calm the little she-kit down. For a heartbeat he wondered if she knew something was wrong. But the tom quickly shrugged it off. There wasn't any way a newborn kit would be able to know what was going on at that moment. All four of them would grow up without knowing, and would therefor be safe.
But now was probably the hardest part for the patched warrior. His paws felt extremely heavy as he began to make the way back towards camp, accompanied by his mate and the Clanmate who would raise their kits as her own. Every pawstep he took felt wrong, as if he was clawing his own belly. Not a single part of Badgerstep wanted to go through with this. But he forced himself to accept the defeat and keep his low purr steady.
He looked over to Smallheart, and tried to voice a burning question through an exchanged glance.. You will take the very best care of them, won't you? The tom blinked sorrowfully. These kits are everything to us. Promise me you'll always look after them with all you have, and give them plenty of love as we would.
