Training a Goose

Swiftfire had finally set aside time to train her new apprentice who was long overdue on lessons. It had been hard to find any free time due to the constant battles and repairing. Members of the clan had been healing rather well and the medicene cat could rest, which she was doing an awful lot lately. She couldn't blame the she-cat though, it was hot in greenleaf. Now that she was deputy it was hard, yes, but she was trying as hard as she could to let the clan accept her as such. If only her parents could see her now, a deputy of Windclan. She had brought no shame upon them yet and she hoped never to do so. Cedarclaw was fully back as well and her kits were growing. Unfortunatly she wasn't sure if Sootclaw had forgiven her from being a bit suspicious of him after the last battle with Riverclan.

Goosepaw had not been around either...., she thought as she made her way to the top of Moor Hill. Before she had left, Swiftfire had told her apprentice to meet her here. It was time for a bit of training.

At the top of the hill, she sat, allowing the wind to ruffel her fur and move the grass around her in a swaying motion. Sighing, Swiftfire looked out over Windclan territory with a light smile. What should I train first? The proper hunting techniques for sure. Her tail flicked in excitement. Her first apprentice! She would train Goospaw as best she could. Never mind that he wasn't originally part of Windclan and that he did act a bit strange, he was special none the less and an asset to the clan.

Swiftfire decided right then that she would make Goosepaw into the best warrior she could. He'd be a proper warrior of Windclan f or sure!

This little apprentice was ready. He still didn't know about the battle whatsoever. He was out and about, going towards the Moorhills. He liked it there. That's where he met his rare bird, AshStorm.

To be honest, he had no interest in being a warrior. He just wanted to be in the clan with AshStorm. To stay in the same den, licking her "feathers". Ah, that is always what he wanted. He loved her, yes, even though he didn't know what love was exactly. That will be difficult for him to realize later on.

So, now here he was, prancing towards the area that SwiftFire told him to met her at. His silver fur was already groomed, the black stripes easily seen. He loved to groom himself, then again, what bird doesn't?

He had his ears perked up, with his pale green eyes watching everything carefully. He felt as if something was going to jump out at him.

When he saw SwiftFire, he went out in a mid-dash, and started to grin wildly. That's where his personality, well, his "disorder" well... what he thought started to peek open. Where cats would think he would never belong in a clan.

"Are we going to learn the peck today?" he grinned, his tail swishing side to side, "Or the wingflap?"

She turned around as soon as she heard paw steps bounding towards her. His gait and the force in his step had given him away. It wasn't his fault. Usually cats who had been trained were harder to hear. The stalking technique for sure made that possible.

As soon as the tom had gotten close to her with his mad dash, he began to ramble about training. Swiftfire cocked her head at what he had to say as he stopped. She'd heard this cat had issues and thought he was a bird rather than a cat, but this was just plain weird. Birds were prey, not what they were. An idea hit her at the name of prey. If she taught this young tom to hunt, she'd tell him to hunt the clan a bird on of these days. Perhaps that would smack some sense into him.

The deputy smiled though at the happy apprentice. He was so eager to learn! Thinking about the way he said the techniques, she realized that she'd have to speak his lingo to get through to him. Add a few bird phrases with cat ones should suffice perfectly, she assumed.

Her sense alert to everything her apprentice did, she began to explain what they would do.
"No, I've got something better in mind. We are going to learn how to stalk efficiently in order to get into hunting techniques afterward."

She got onto her paws, her eyes shining. "If no bird ever learned this key move then they could never grow up to catch their own meal or help feed their nest." The cat version of that was, if no cat ever learned how to stalk then they could never perfect it to hunt to help their clan and they would get hungry. Swiftfire was going on a 'wing' or 'limb' here. If this tactic worked, perhaps this apprentice wouldn't be very hard to teach. She hoped to Starclan that this worked because if it didn't she would have a hard time getting through to this tom.

((Sorry for late reply. Been busy, and I haven't had much muse for GoosePaw exactly with this thread. XDD;))

The tom was already imagining himself using the powerful peck at his opponents, leaving them stunned. The flapping his feathers in their faces. It would be splendid if it was real. He wanted to learn. He wanted to know.

What if he wasn't cut out to do this though? As most knows, he thinks he is a bird. He wants to learn bird techniques. He wants to do everything like a bird. Why? That, I can't exactly explain. Well, of course, he thinks he is a bird, but no one knows why.

All his thoughts were soon being interrupted with SwiftFire speaking. Although, he still didn't really understand. There was really hunting techniques? He didn't know about that. Sure, maybe a little, but he didn't think they were real. He thought it was myth or legend.

"Oh, okay," he mewed rather eagerly, himself now jumping up and down, "Teach me!"

He soon stopped, sitting down upon his tail for it to stop moving around so much. He wanted to learn. He wanted to help. He wanted to be the best for AshStorm! Even though he was an apprentice, he didn't know about the warrior code, or how he wasn't exactly supposed to have a "mate" or anything of the sort. It wouldn't make any sense to him even if he did know.

His ears were flickering around eagerly, while his eyes were gaped open in amusement and eagerness. Ah, yes, he was willing to learn. Although, would that stop him from doing it efficiently?

At the excitement Goosepaw showed, she couldn't help but purr in pleasure. This was going to work!

"Okay, since Windclan hunts the fastest prey in these lands, we have to be much faster and stay low to the ground like this," she said while turning her body length ways. She put her body towards the ground as far as she could.

"Now you try to mimic me Goosepaw."

GoosePaw blinked, and scrunched his nose. He wasn't sure how to do that exactly. Then again, that may be easy for him. He was small.

He tried to scrunch down, his belly fur barely touching the ground. He looked up at her, and gave a sly smile.

"L-Like this?" he mewed quietly, looking down at the ground, the tips of his ears burning hot.

She sat up as Goosepaw mimiced her. Swiftfire quickly went over his form and smiled. It was a good first try, but not close enough for her to count that off the checklist.

"Almost, but lower your body more, along with your head." The deputy touched his back and pushed down lightly till his body reacted and went where she wanted. She flicked her tail onto his head to tell him to lower it as well, then ran it along his entire form. "Imagine your the exact shape as the ground you are on. Windclan hunts prey out in the open so we have to be able to hide from it, but be close enough we even have the chance of chasing it down. You also need to keep your eyes somewhat above the grass level."

Swiftfire went right next to Goosepaw and showed the form again, her belly fur lightly brushing the ground, her tail forming a curve towards the ground that wasn't sharp, and her head at a low angle.
