SnowFeather looked over at FoxStar, and then at Ashrose.
"What about FoxStar? She looks dead right now," she mewed, her ears flickering around a bit, "I know she wasn't my leader, but I still feel kinda sad. I mean, what if she is dead? Did she even get her lives? She said she didn't, but that didn't mean she didn't go back to retrieve them."
Stonekit, who had been listening from inside the nursery with curiosity tugging at his paws, had wriggled away from the two hovering queens and popped out of the den with pricked ears. His wide amber eyes fell on Foxstar's body, and he froze. "What's wrong with Foxstar?" he mewed in shock, glancing all around from WindClan to RiverClan alike, and then back into the nursery.
Cedarclaw came out quickly after him, and wrapped her tail around his body in an attempt to shield his eyes. She herself was actually startled by the sight of the red she-cat's body laying there. Did she even get her lives? Great StarClan... "Don't worry, Stonekit, Foxstar's fine. She's just a bit winded, that's all."
The tortoiseshell tom-kit wasn't satisfied with his mother's answer, however. He struggled around his mother's tail and continued to watch the leader's body. "Then why isn't she moving?" he squealed.
QuietKit slowly padded out after her brother and mother, being rather quiet. SpottedTail was too busy checking all the other kits to notice, at least, she probably would in a few moments.
She just sent her orange eyes over FoxStar's body, and held in a gasp and a yowl of, well, surprise. She felt so shocked to see her leader's body there, and she didn't know if she was dead, hurt, or just, sleeping. She didn't know what death was, she hasn't experienced it yet, and she didn't want to.
All she could do was snuggle her nose into her mother's fur, letting out a soft purr.
-
{{I'm just going to let FoxStar get up now. xD; }}
FoxStar was still staring at DappledFrost, soon everything going black. She was confused, why must this happen? She didn't know what was going on, until she found herself in her body once more.
She slowly rose to her paws, but fell down once more. She let out a groan, looking at MoonSpirit and MiracleFur. She looked confused, and gave a soft laugh, but it soon came out in gasps. Her windPipe still hurt, although it was healed only slightly.
"I-I'm alright. Just lost a life, that's all," she slowly said in a hushed voice, "I-Is everyone okay?"
-
SnowFeather looked over at the Leader, and couldn't help but smile. She got her lives afterall. This was a good sign for WindClan, that was for sure.
She walked over to RavenStone, and gave him a soft lick on the cheek, "I'm going now."
She spoke that quickly, and took off after HawkTalon before he could say a word. She did the same to him, and just ran off into the bushes before anyone could say a word. She didn't want to bare anymore pain.
Stormstrike still had not left yet and he knew he needed to say something before he could. He watched Snowfeather go before turning to Hawktalon and Ravenstone. "Will you two please see that the rest of Riverclan gets back to camp alright? I'll follow in a minute." Hawktalon nodded without a word, nudging Ravenstone to show they needed to do so.
Stormstrike went over to the Windclan leader, stopping a little bit from her and bowing his head. "Foxstar...I don't know what to say, except...I deeply apologize. This shouldn't have happened.."
FoxStar grunted, and looked over at StormStrike. She gave a soft smile, and blinked slowly.
"Here, let's talk in private. SwiftFire can come if she wants," she said slowly, and slowly padded to her den. She understood why it happened, yet it wasn't exactly needed, that was true, yet she didn't blame FireStar.
She sat down in her nest slowly, and let her eyes close for a moment, before opening them once more, her ears flickering while she waited.
Stonekit pricked his ears when Foxstar rose, the old grin reappearing on his face. As with his sister, death was a concept far out from his young comprehension. But he had noticed the lack of the rise and fall of her flank, how still she had been. It had been so eerie. But that was over and done with now, and the young tortoiseshell tom-kit bounded through his mother's legs and batted his sister's ear with a playful mrrow.
~~~~~
Cedarclaw let a sigh slip through her nose and a small smile to find a spot on her face, giving Quietkit a quick lick to the head. Foxstar may not have been the greatest leader in the history of WindClan, but as such, the tortoiseshell still wanted to give the orange she-cat the loyalty that came with her rank. Even if it was difficult to do so at times.
But she was also glad that it was not yet the time for her kits to witness death. The she-cat glanced down to them, where the two had begun a little game. At least Stonekit had pushed the thought away. Her smile grew just a tad bigger. They were still so young. Death shouldn't inhabit their thoughts for a good many moons to come.
Cedarclaw reached down and nudged the two with her nose. "Go on, you two," she purred softly. "Back into the nursery with you."
~~~~~
Badgerstep watched the events from just inside the medicine cat's den with a twitch of his whiskers. It was good to see Foxstar back on her paws again. But in his mind, there had never been a reason to worry. If he had given the subject of the leader's lives a thought, they had passed quickly without leaving much of an imprint. She had gone to the Moonstone, hadn't she? And while he had been there with her, his thoughts had been more focused on Moonspirit.
The black and white tom glanced over to where she was treating the fallen cat. His mind now buzzed with the subject of kits. How far along was she? How long did this usually take? How were they supposed to know when they were coming, so they could get Moonspirit away from camp in time? He felt so stupid and, well, young. Even though he was well past his time of early youth, he still had only gotten his warrior name a little while ago in comparison. The warrior had thought that by this age, he would have had all the answers. But now he was at a loss.
~~~~~
Ravenstone blinked when he felt her tongue brush his cheek, and then watched the beautiful white she-cat turn and dash off further into WindClan territory. The tender action only made him feel worse. It was like being clawed up from the inside. The black tom desperately had the urge to bolt right after her, to run and not stop until he had caught up with her.
But then what? Snowfeather didn't want to be in RiverClan, and that was where he belonged. The tom so very badly wanted there to be a happier ending. But if there was one, he couldn't see it.
Maybe I could go look for her sometime. She'd probably be in that weird tunnel, right? I could go out there, and then... His thoughts trailed off again, and his tail drooped to the ground. He had to stop thinking impossible thoughts. He had made a self-promise to not interfere with her life any more. But it was so much harder than he had first imagined.
Stormstrike's words pulled him out of his thoughts, and at first he just blinked, not understanding. But after a moment he let out a murmur of agreement, glanced painfully to Hawktalon, and began to pad after the warrior with stones in his paws.
~~~~~
Icepaw shifted uncomfortably as he watched Foxstar pad into her den after recovering from the loss of one of her lives. The young tom was fighting the guilt that seemed to be handing over RiverClan like a storm. Every other cat was going on about how this battle shouldn't have been, that RiverClan should have just let WindClan's previous attack pass by like it had been nothing. But how could they say that? WindClan deserved every bit of this!
His claws sank into the ground. He hadn't even gotten the real chance to fight. This had turned out into a pointless skirmish and nothing more. But then he looked to where Rosepaw lay, and he almost wanted to take it back. She looked battered and bruised as she lay there.
The pale tabby glanced over his shoulder, watching Hawktalon and Ravenstone lead the way back towards camp. He should have been going with them, but instead the apprentice padded over to Miraclefur and Rosepaw with a twitch in his tail. "Do you want be to help carry her?" he asked the medicine cat. He felt as if he needed to at least offer a helping paw. She was his adoptive sister, after all.
MiracleFur placed RosePaw down, and licked IcePaw friendly like, and gave a soft purr.
"Yes, IcePaw. I would probably Ask MoonSpirit for help, but as you can see from earlier, we have having a skirmish. Because of the little... journey we had before. But yes, help, thank you," she purred softly, "If I can rise her, can you two try to put your bodies beneath her?"
She blinked slowly, hearing RosePaw groan because of the pain. This isn't the type of pain that an apprentice should have to experience yet.
-
QuietKit scrunched down when she saw that her brother was trying to play. She let out a silly smile, and batted back, with no sound at all. Why was she so quiet again? Not many know that answer, and most like that about her.
She got up to her little paws, and ran back to the nursery, hoping that StoneKit was following.
Stormstrike limped after the leader, wondering if he should be doing this without his own leader present. But she should be here, she had made the choice to abandon her clan after the battle had not gone her way. And he wanted peace. For his clanmates...for his own family. He entered her den quietly, sitting by the entrance as he tried to not put so much pressure on his injured leg. He stayed silent, knowing this was the time for Foxstar to speak, not him.
FoxStar's whiskers quivered while she thought on what to say. It was difficult to know, for she didn't exactly know how to explain it, nor did she know how this tom would react. All she knew was that he figured this battle was unnecessary, which, part of it was, then again, it wasn't.
"StormStrike, part of this battle was necessary, you may not think so, but it was. Although, I wished it didn't happen," she mewed slowly, for it still hurt to speak, but she had to stand strong, she could not show weakness, "I don't see why she would want to, except that we attacked you. Although, you must see why, MiracleFur harmed another, and that is usually the only reaction a leader has, and since we had news of her going to the Medicine Cat Meeting, we suspected that she was with your clan, which seems to be correct, right?" she asked that, while her whiskers quivered.
"Either way, we didn't kill any of your warriors, we didn't kill any apprentices, nor kits, or took one of her lives. What we did do, is only put our clan in danger, all we did, was put our deputy in StarClan," she couldn't help but growl, letting her claws dig into her nest since her front paws were on the edge, "Did she not think that was enough? She did not realize that hurt our clan? Did she not realize that was just unbearable?"
She shook her head side to side, letting her claws sheath, along with her eyes softening a bit.
She spoke once more, but in a lighter tone, "Fact is, the battle that she caused, made one flaw in her part," she looked up at StormStrike, knowing that he wouldn't disagree, "She made more of her warriors hate her even more. I saw the faces when I walked by, I saw the look in their eyes, I saw the gleam. I saw the same in my warriors, they still dislike me. She needs to stay strong, that's what she needs. StormStrike, tell her this, 'If you want to prove that you are strong, determined, loyal, and most importantly, the one right for the job, then you gotta make your warriors believe, don't show how you really feel, how angry, upset, or any of that to your warriors, just show your pride and determination'."
She sat there, letting her large fluffy tail cover her black paws.
Stormstrike studied Foxstar, hie bright blue eyes unreadable in expression. He nodded, answering the questions when needed to. "Yes...Miraclefur is our Medicine cat. Though, she was not part of our clan when the attack happened between her and your medicine cat. It was not somethign Riverclan approved of."
He dropped his head at her next statement, knowing she was right. Riverclan hadn't lost anything in that battle, it was true, except maybe some pride. Windclan had suffered more in these skirmishes, yet Firestar thought that Riverclan needed the revenge. He frowned at the mention of the lost deputy, not saying anything to this point.
He looked up as she continued on a softer note and he listened carefull so he could tell his leader her message. She was right, he could see those looks as well. And it was hard, being deputy and not liking what your leader was ordering yet you needed to defend her from the rest of the clan's remarks. He sat up straight, nodding. "I will tell her that Foxstar, thank you." He dipped his head to her. "And hopefully...there may be peace between our clans again."
FoxStar dipped her head respectfully back at the deputy, and sighed.
"I must say, StormStrike, I am deeply sorry for attacking, but I think you understand, correct?" she asked, her eyes still soft, and continued, "By the way, I am proud of how you are reacting to all of this, I know you are not my own deputy, but I can still say that you are doing a good job. Any cat could see that."
She purred softly, and soon pushed herself on all four paws.
"Peace would be nice, yet, It may never happen. There may still be difficulties among our clans that we can not control," she slowly padded over, limping while doing so, and stopped beside him, "Yet, it will happen, I just know."
She continued forth after saying those last words, and went to look for MoonSpirit. She needed patched up, or she may be hurting even longer.
Stormstrike nodded in agreement. "Yes, I think both of us regret our decisions now. But what's done is done." At her next words, he felt his fur get a little hot and he let a small smile show. "Thank you Foxstar...that means a great deal. I just hope my leader sees it the same way."
He sighed, tail twitching back and forth. "Yes...I know what you mean. Can only hope so though." He said before following her out and padding back towards camp to speak with his leader.
Swiftfire watched the leader of Riverclan leave without saying anything. She was throughly infuriated with this she-cat. How dare she give a killing blow when Windclan didn't kill her!
Quickly, she stole a glance at her leader and worry poured out of her soul as she saw the cobwebs were not helping at all. A sudden male voice made her turn around to see Stormstrike, Riverclan's deputy. Her taile lashed a bit, but she listened to him and calmed down. This cat was different than Firestar and right now knowing that this cat understood that what Riverclan had done wrong, was settling her down.
"I accept your apology thoroughly Stormstrike. This was started by a little skirmish and now it has lead to this and I'm saddened about it."
She then began to go towards her leader and watch from afar. She couldn't bare to lose her leader now! She didn't even know if Starclan had given any lives to Foxstar. I can't be leader just yet! Please Starclan don't take her just yet!
Slowly, she saw her leader twitch and begin to move. Her first try to get up lead her to fall down again. A lot of blood was lost and she was scared for Foxstar. When she heard Foxstar talk though, relief flooded through her as if a dam broke. She called for Stormstrike and told her she could come as well.
As the two padded off, she shook her head no to Foxstar and began to look at the damaged clan of hers. It was a horrible mess, full of blood and the camp being strewn about.
After a while, Stormstrike and Foxstar left from the den. As Stormstrike left, she ran up to him in a few bounds.
Quickly, she caught his gaze with her green ones. Swiftfire gave him a grateful blink and dip of her head. Then, she whisked around again to find Foxstar.
When she arrived in front of the leader, she dipped her head. "Foxstar I'm glad that you're okay, but you need to take it easy. You don't have to look for Moonspirit when you have a horrible deadly wound like that."
Icepaw nodded to the medicine cat, his left ear flicking. Moonspirit needed to let go of the past. It had all been an accident, no real harm meant. "Yeah, I think I can do that," he mewed, padding a bit closer to where Rosepaw lay. The pale tabby struggled to nose her body upwards and then quickly move his shoulder under for support. Unconscious, she felt like a hundred squirrels.
"Erf! I got'er," he growled under the weight, slowly straightening out his legs to gain back the ability to walk.
~~~~~~
Stonekit mewed excitedly when his sister returned the playful swipe. Unlike her, the young tortoiseshell was rather loud and outspoken. His ability to keep quiet wasn't really in tune. But right then, as a kit, that didn't matter. He just shook out his fur and chased Quietkit back into the nursery with gleaming amber eyes.
~~~~~
Cedarclaw chuckled lightly as her ginger an tortoiseshell kits exchanged a few blows before dashing off back into the nursery. The moment of shock seemed to be behind them, at least. The she-cat gave her chest a few quick licks, then let her eyes wander the edges of camp. The RiverClan cars were beginning to leave at last, following after their already disappeared leader. But no familiar silhouette was coming toward the camp, no black pelt heading their way.
Where had he been? Cedarclaw hadn't spotted him once during the battle. Actually, the whole battle party of WindClan had been pretty small. But she knew she would have spotted him even in the midst of the fighting. Not that I care, of course, she added in quickly. It's normal to notice that a warrior isn't in camp if something important is going on. That's all. Besides, it gave the tortoiseshell something to gripe to him about the next time he paid a visit.
Twitching her whiskers, Cedarclaw turned about and followed her kits back into the nursery.
FoxStar wheezed a bit, and just sat down. Her head was bowed low, while she spoke roughly to SwiftFire.
"SwiftFire, I know that, but... I don't know," she admitted, looking over at her. She felt horrible. She looked horrible. That wound on her neck was starting to ooze blood slowly once more since of all the moving.
She should stop everything and sit there, but Foxstar didn't. She got right back up to find the medicine cat.
-
MiracleFur nodded a bit, and tried to slither under the apprentice as well. At least, this would put more weight on her and not IcePaw.
"Thanks, IcePaw," she flashed him a smile, and slowly started to get out of WindClan territory.
-
SootClaw was prancing along his way from his hunt, feeling quite proud on what he caught. A thrush, two rabbits,--one being rather huge, almost the size of one of the little kits--, and a sparrow.
He got right to the entrance, and dropped the freshkill. Why did SootClaw stop? He stopped because he smelled blood. A lot of it.
He quickly ran over to CedarClaw, who was just getting in the nursery. He made sure she got in completely before rushing in to nose her all over which followed to the kits. After doing so, he took a few steps back, and looked worriedly to her.
"Are you and the kits okay? What happened?" he questioned, but trying not to be so pressuring. He was a father, so of course he would be worried, right?
-
QuietKit backed up to the back of the nursery, feeling her father's nose go across her little body, but then ran over to Stonekit to pounce. She batted at his ears, and face. She was trying to just have fun, that was all.
