Leopardclaw sat in the middle of the clearing. How could things have gone from perfect to terrible in one day. His life had been at the peak of perfection and it had all come crashing down. How could Fireleaf be deputy. How could she be the next leader in line. He couldn't process what was happening to him or his family. He didn't want to seem selfish but he didn't want this for his mate. He had wanted someone to be able to love without boundaries and be near. But he couldn't be near this new serious focused Fireleaf. It bothered him deeply. What if he wanted more kits, more family. He couldn't have them because Fireleaf would be leader soon by the looks of Crookedstar's condition

Fireleaf padded into camp, she was happy to see Leopardclaw and bounded over. "Leopardclaw! Oh, I'm so happy were sharing a den again!" She pressed into him-nuzzling him and purring loudly.

Leopardclaw nuzzled her back but not with much enthusiasm. "Not for long.", he murmured to himself. He knew he was being selfish but he couldn't help himself. Maybe he was supposed to be selfish. Maybe that was just his nature that no one would or could change. He sighed to himself and tried to hide the grimace that colored his face.

Fireleaf stopped, "Leopardclaw, even If Crookedstar does.... join StarClan you are always welcome in my den. StarClan told you we were ment to be together, and I wont let that get ruined, ever! I love you too much!" she purred.

Leopardclaw laughed. "Ya right. You are going to be to focused on the clan to even have time for me or the kits. Fireleaf I want kits Fireleaf but that doesn't matter.", he whined. He wanted her to be happy but he couldn't get rid of the burning desire of selfishness.

Fireleaf shook her head, "No! No I love you and nothing will ever, ever change that!" she cried. "I... I..." she shook her head, tears streaming down her face.

Leopardclaw licked her face and licked the tears away. "Don't cry just ignore me all I do is cause you pain.", he said disgusted with himself. "All I do is cause you pain.", he whined licking the tears from her eyes. "Just ignore me", he sighed putting some distance between her and him.

Fireleaf sobbed, "No no! Don't go! Please! All you've caused me ever is love! Please! I Love you! I... I could never ignore you!"

Leopardclaw closed the distance and nuzzled her. "Just forget I said anything.", he growled mostly to himself.

Fireleaf took a deep breath and covered him in loving licks. "Don't ever scare me like that again!" she purred. "Remember that I will always, always love you no matter what!" she pressed into him.
