The cat that I knew not(Goldenfur/open)

Hazelcloud smiled tentatively. She could tell that he shared her thoughts. "She didn't seem to like Clan cats. But I suppose that doesn't go for all loners, does it?" She picked up her mouse and padded closer to him. "I've already hunted for the Clan. Since prey's still plentiful, I doubt they'd mind if we shared this."

Greyden nodded. "What is a clan?", he asked a wee bit confused.

Hazelcloud's eyes widened. "Oh, sorry. I assumed all cats knew about the four Clans." She felt her ears grow hot. Here she was blabbering on and on about Clans, when he hadn't known a thing about what she was talking about. He must think I'm mouse-brained! "Well, the Clans were groups of cats. Each Clan controls their own territory- My Clan, ShadowClan, has the pine tree marsh. ThunderClan has the forest, WindClan the moors, and RiverClan the island marshes. The cats in a single Clan live together, hunting and training for battles in case a fight breaks out between the Clans." She stopped herself, thinking her fast words must be confusing to Greyden.

"Ahh I see so it is like the wolf pack of the north but with cats.", he said. "Well the confusion is over", he liked her voice it was very sweet and innocent.

Hazelcloud smiled. "Yes, like the wolf pack." I had though those where only stories elders used to scare kits! But at least he didn't laugh and pad away. "Have you ever seen them? The elders used to say that they were huge cat-eating dogs with huge fangs." As she pictured them in her mind, the she-cat had to repress a shudder.

"Yes they are like dogs accept they eat much larger prey than cats. They eat deer, elk...the list is endless.", he said loving the wolves.

Pushing her fear of the monstrous creatures aside, Hazelcloud purred gently and rubbed her cheek against his. "You must be very brave to have observed them," she purred. I don't know if I'd be able to do it. I might need some cat to stand by me, to let me know they were there for me." She blinked up at him, wondering if he was that kind of cat.

Greyden purred nervously not sure how to respond. He took a step back remembering all of the eager she-cats. Was she like this??

Dread prickled along her spine as her eyes widened. "Oh, no! I didn't mean anything like that, honest! It's just... I've known some toms that turn out to be the kind of cat that would turn tail and flee in the face of danger without any care in the world for me." Her eyes darkened with memories of hurt and disappointment. After a moment they cleared, and Hazelcloud sighed. "I just wanted to know if you were like that, too. I don't feel the need to go through that again."

Greyden was still nervous as he nodded. "I am not the turn tail and flee kind", he replied.

Hazelcloud said nothing, and looked away ashamed. "I'm sorry," she said at last. "I wasn't thinking. Can you forgive me?" She didn't doubt the fact that he would walk away right then and there. The way she had put him on the spot like that... She would have gone, too, no doubt.

He purred slightly then took a step forward. "It is alright dearest.", he smiled.

Hazelcloud felt let letting out a huge sigh of relief, but she retained her composition. She smiled at the tom gratefully. "Thank you. You really are different from other toms."

"That's what they say you know.", he chuckled

She purred softly. "They have a reason to." She looked up at the sky. The sun was falling in the sky, casting shades of purple and pink across the blue. She hadn't realized how late it had become. Hazlecloud looked back at the tom apologetically. "I'm sorry, it's getting late. My Clan will wonder what has become of me." She hesitated. "Will I see you again?"
