Rainpaw sighed, he could tell from her look that it wasn't good. He closed his eyes, just wishing the pain would stop long enough for him to sleep....As soon as she touched his leg, he let out a loud cry of pain, recoiling and trembling. "D-Don't do th-that...." He gasped softly, eyes looking back to her.

Dappledleaf recoiled quickly at the apprentice's outburst. Pity tugged at her heart, but she knew something had to be done. "I'd give you poppy seeds for the pain, but I can't until you have recovered from the shock," she explained calmly. "If I can't apply the poultice- and I don't want to yet if it hurts that badly- then you need to eat the thyme for me."

Rainpaw listened to her, breathing heavily from his outburst. "O-okay...." He said, lifting his head. His stomach growled against the thyme but he ate it and he swallowed all of it, resisiting the urge to gag. Again, he felt his body start to relax and his eyelids drop, the images of Dappledleaf and Riddlehawk becoming blurry.

Dappledfrost let out a breath she hadn't even known she was holding. "Rest now, little one." She waited until the thyme took effect, not wanting the apprentice to hear what she was about to say, then turned back to Riddlehawk. "It's... Best to say this now. Even if he survives, I don't know if his leg will ever heal. If worst comes to worst, Rainpaw will never be a warrior."

Bluewillow couldn't take her eyes from the apprentice, then she looked to Dappledfrost. "Goldenfur needs to be looked at..." she said, "As long as all the major wounds have been seen.

Dappledfrost nodded. "Alright, lead her in. What condition is she in?"

Bluewillow bounded over to Goldenfur in her nest at the far side away from the commotion.

Goldenfur had her eyes closed, but she was awake. She had two large belly wounds soaked in blood and her one front paw was died with blood and she had scratches all over her, including one deep one in her flank.

Unfortunately, Rainpaw did hear, but he was too relaxed and almost completely unconscious to respond. As he faded into darkness of his mind, the last echoing words seemed to haunt him.

Riddlehawk pinned his ears back when he cried out. He looked at her sadly. I knew that was a possibility

Mousefur was feeling much better. She sat up and licked her chest. She felt a sharp pang and yowled. Iy was coming from the back of her neck and her back. She froze in her nest and looked around nervously. "R-riddlehawk???", she asked looking around the clearing.

Riddlehawk bolted out of the Medicine cat's den, over to Mousefur. What is it? he asked, his gold eyes earching her calmly but quickly.
