Tumblekit let out a peal of laughter as the golden warrior gently cuffed his ears, and the little blue-grey kit spun around to bat at the tom's larger paw. Mama had told that he should never use his claws when he played, and so he was careful to keep his sharp kitten claws sheathed. Mama used to play with him a lot, telling him that she wished his siblings had survived so he would know what joy there was in playing with ones littermates. Tumblekit hadn't really understood it, because he had never had littermates to play with, but Mama told him stories of when she was a little kit just like him. No matter how much she had told him, though, he found it just a tiny bit hard to imagine having brothers or sisters. He was so used to it being himself and Mama.
And now, it was now his new mother, Tanglestar, and his new daddy, Sunflash. He wasn't used to being in such a large group of cats, but something told him he would learn, adapt, and become one of them. It might take a little time, but he would adjust. He was curious, and eager, about this new place he was in and the new cats he would meet.
The little blue-grey kit let out a squeal of joy as he tried to catch Sunflash's dangling tail between his front paws. "I'm gonna get 'chu!" He mewled gleefully, hopping and swaying from side to side in his attempt to catch the offending appendage. Finally, he became still, keeping as motionless as possible as if to sneak up on the warrior's tail. He pounced at it, and, with a happy little squeal, totally overshot it and tumbled to the side.
But Tumblekit was not hurt, no, and he bounced up with a giggle and bounded back to challenge his 'foe' for a second time. Sunflash's tail would never escape him now! Strategically, he changed his tactics, and began to slowly stalk up to it. With a hop forward, the tiny kitten caught the golden tom's tail in his mouth, gently, and gave it a soft but triumphant shake. Mama had also taught him to always be gentle, unless he was in a battle. As a result, Tumblekit was always careful not to do any harm when he played.
"Got 'cha!" He purred proudly, puffing out his chest in pride. His mouth was full of fur, but that certainly did not deter him. After a moment of holding it in his jaws, he released Sunflash's tail, his blue eyes gleaming. "You're so lucky I'm letting you go, otherwise I'd eat it!" He laughed. In his play, he had not noticed that his new parents' moods had shifted slightly, and that they were staring across the clearing at the icky smelling she-cat. He finally noticed it now, and Tumblekit peered over at the cat with curiosity.
"Who's that?" he asked, innocently, looking up at Tanglestar with a questioning look, and saw the hostile gleam in her eyes as she glared at the cat near the fallen tree. He twitched his ears, peering at the cat. "She looks like a mangy scrap of fur!" Not like he was any different - he was scrawny and small, due to the fact that Tanglestar had found him starving and on his own. His coat, fluffy in its fuzzy kitten fur, had not yet returned to the proper sheen it should be displaying for a cat of his age.
He noticed another cat approach from the corner of his eye, and Tumblekit turned to look at it. It was a tom, carrying a bird, but he looked so strange to the little blue-grey kit. He only had one eye, and he was limping. With a tilt of his head, he rose to greet the newcomer, but a feather from the bird the new cat was carrying fluttered loose from the fresh-kill, and Tumblekit threw himself after it with a screech of eager excitement.
He trapped the feather under his paws with a playful growl, his tail lashing back and forth. In his view, Tumblekit was the best hunter in the forest. How mighty a warrior he would be! Mama would be so proud. Would he be as noble as the warriors in her stories had been? He hoped so. He batted the feather back and forth with a giggle, before bouncing back with the feather in his mouth. His blue eyes were alight with a sort of happiness only perhaps a kit could have.
