Shadowpaw's Hunting Trip

Shadowpaw reached the giant oak tree, looking around, before seeing a squirrel looking for nuts at the base of the tree. He slowly stalked closer till his pounced and killed it. Shadowpaw smiled, he always had troubles with squirrels so he was hoping that this meant he was getting better with his hunting. Well... I guess I still need to work more since it almost got away, Shadowpaw sighed before burying the squirrel. He twitched his ears, looking for more prey, spotting a bird in the tree. Hm.... Shadowpaw turned and hid the bushes and waited, wondering if the bird would land and give him a chance to catch it.

Two green eyes peered out of the bushes, watching the white apprentice. "Shh, Riddlekit, we found him." Skypaw said quietly, glancing up to the kit on his back. His ears twitched as he looked back to his clanmate. 'Wow...he caught a squirrel. That's pretty good, it took me a long time to be able to do that...' he thought to himself as Shadowpaw disappeared into the bushes himself.

Shadowpaw saw the bird land and begin to peck at a worm before Shadowpaw dashed after the bird, pouncing on the bird only to be pecked on the nose and have the feather ball disappear into the tree. Shadowpaw lashed his tail before growling, "Dumb bird....." Shadowpaw looked up the tree before walking over to it, getting ready to jump up the tall trunk. He lunged and began to claw his way up, determined to get the bird since he pecked him.

RiddleKit purred, but soon stopped. It was obvious they were getting near, by how SkyPaw was acting. His paws kneaded upon the tom's shoulders a bit, and blinked.

Skypaw watched with interested eyes, smiling lightly as the bird started to peck at the apprentice. Oops. He let Riddlekit down from his back, frowning as Shadowpaw started to climb the tree. That wa not good, Rainwing had told stories about cats who could get really hurt doing that. "Shadowpaw...you might just want to let it go. If you fall, it'd be really bad!" He called up to him as he stepped out of the bushes and into the clearing, looking up to his clanmate.

Shadowpaw stopped and looked at Skypaw, growling, "What's it matter to you?WHAT are you bothering me? I want to be left alone," He hissed before climbing onto the branch near him, glaring down on Skypaw, his tail lashing as he watched the annoying cat from below. He looked back up to the tree where the bird was watching, he signed before starting to climb again, planning to catch the bird, not caring if they disapproved of his hunting method. He nearly reached the bird before it saw him and started to crow. The bird attacked Shadowpaw, scratching at him and he clawed back, trying to try and get back, digging his claws into the branch he was on as he fought to keep from falling. Shadowpaw managed to sink his fangs into the bird and killed it, before feeling a paw slip. Shadowpaw looked at the ground before clawing at the branch, clinging as he dropped the bird, more focused on trying to get back on the branch. "Come on claws!!! Dig in!!!!"

Skypaw cocked his head to one side curiously as he sat down and looked up to him. He didn't take the growl to heart, instead he shrugged with a smile. "I don't know, me and Riddlekit just wanted an adventure and...do you really want to be alone? Seems you could use a friend. I know I'm not as great of hunter as you but...we could be friends right?" He winced as the bird attacked back, but then smiled when he killed the bird and it fell to his feet. He looked to the bird, it was pretty big. "Good job Shadowpaw, this guy is huge! He's.......Shadowpaw?" He trailed off as he looked back up to the white tom, eyes widening as he saw him slipping. Uh oh...

Shadowpaw freaked, clawing frantic at the branch, trying to get back on the branch when his claws slipped and he started to fall, Shadowpaw tried turning in the air but before he could, his back end hit a branch, his tail freezing before he hit Skypaw, rolling off the apprentice before laying on the ground, his tail mangled from hitting the branch, Shadowpaw laying still on the ground. When he tried to stand, his couldn't get his hind paws to move without pain flaring from the spot of the hit. The white furred pain growled before looking at his hind end, noticing a deep cut running down his back before he forced himself to his feet, staggering as he limped out of the clearing, forgetting about the bit of prey he caught. D-d**n.... it hurts... a lot, guess I need to work on my climbing skills. The thought of him landing on Skypaw hadn't clicked in his mind as he limped away, not bothering to stop and notice the cat he squash from the fall. He felt the blood running down his mangled tail, turning his snow white fur scarlet red, leaving a small line on the ground, fighting the pain of walking. Just make it to the hallow...... I... I.... can rest there, Shadowpaw breathed deeply, feeling his strength disappearing as he walked, trying to keep his legs from collapsing on him.

Skypaw, in all turns of common sense, should have moved. But no, of course not. And lucky for Shadowpaw, because if he had and his body hadn't comforted the white apprentice's fall, he might have died from that fall. Skypaw had watched Shadowpaw fall and in a split second, a great weight hit him. This caused his legs to buckle and his whole body to sprawl out in weakness as he groans. Ow...He picked himself up with a wince, the forest spinning a little bit from the fall and his muscles complained in pain but other than that, he was fine. But was Shadowpaw? He shook his pelt, clearing the dirt and leaves from it. He left the prey as well before nodding to Riddlekit to follow. He still had to look out for him. He then started to follow the blood trail from the other apprentice. Oh no, he was really hurt! He picked up his pace slightly, making sure not to let Riddlekit get out of sight though. He easily caught up to Shadow, wincing at the look of his hindquarters. "Shadowpaw...I think you should stop and lay down, that looks really bad and it's probably bad to walk on it..." He said softly with concern, green eyes on him.

Shadowpaw heard Skypaw and twisted around to look at the tom, growling as his fur fluffed out before clawing at him, "Leave me alone!!!" He hissed loudly, before turning and trying to dart off, finding his could barely get above a walk with the limp. Leave me alone!!! I don't need your help!!!! I don't need anyone's!!!! They'll just.... take advantage of this and use it against me!! Shadowpaw breathed before slipping and laying on the ground, breathing heavily has he struggled to get up again, his paws slipping out from under him.

Skypaw stopped in surprise, Shadowpaw's claw catching the end of his nose and his eyes widened at the sudden sting. He shook his head to stop his eyes from watering and put a paw over his nose a minute to stop the blood. He didn't know why he wouldn't accept his help, but he couldn't just leave him. He saw his effort to get back to his feet, so he padded closer to him and nudged him, slipping under him and lifting him up some on his own shoulders, though his small frame was shaking a little bit under the weight. He didn't say anything, just made sure Riddlekit was with him before he started taking slow, steady steps towards camp.

Shadowpaw growled, no longer having the strength to fight, his ears where pulled back, not happy to be getting help, "What is it that you want?" Shadowpaw figured that the cat was trying to get something from him and wasn't willing to risk it. If the cat had something that he wanted, Shadowpaw was ready to bite him and drag himself away, not willing to have someone hold something over his head. I will not let this cat win, never.

Skypaw glanced to him in confusion, studying him for a minute before answering. "Nothing....why would I want anything?" He asked with a soft grunt as one of his paws faltered softly. He wondered how far they were from camp exactly..."I was just trying to figure out why you were so distant, I was just thinking we could be friends....I wasn't trying to bother you..." He said easily, glancing to him with sincere green eyes.

Shadowpaw looked at the cat before growling louder, trying to wiggle free, "I don't believe you," He hissed before falling to the ground, hissing before watching that cat, "Leave me alone, don't bother worrying about me. I don't want your or anyone elses help." Shadowpaw refused to let his guard down since the one cat that he trusted more then anything tried to kill him, setting the fear of being hurt in his mind. I don't need his help, I can take care of myself and become the most powerful warrior ever, that should show the other cats that I'm not some push over.

RiddleKit suddenly dashed up to ShadowPaw, and looked up at him with bright eyes.

"ShadowPaw, mister, you really do need help. I swear, you are strong, but, but, mister, everyone needs help at some point. You are stronger than me, bigger, too. Please, just this once? What if we tell no one?"

RiddleKit had a serious face going on, his eyes staring wide-eyed up at him.
