The dark brown tabby tom walked in the nursery, padding up to Shadow. He smiled at her, his tail swishing side to side.

"Welcome to the Nursery."

Shadow smiled, "Thank you Dirtfur... My kits have never met a cat their age before." she said. "I give you my thanks."

He dipped his head.

"I haven't really met your kits yet. Remember, I was escorting that mouse-brained fool-ball off of our territory."

He said the our in a different tone, as in making it seem as if Shadow now belonged to the clan.

Shadow blinked, "Yes, Well... This is Shattered, Heart, Tears, Fang Claw and Blood..." she said, pointing her tail to each kit.

Shattered look at up the tom, a slight frown on his face. It was the same cat from before, the one who had brought him here with the other she-cat. He wasn't sure if he could trust him or not. He seemed nice enough, but the tortoiseshell kit really had no knowledge of him.

DirtFur gave them all a quick sniff, and smiled at Shadow.

"They are strong and Healthy."

Tears squeaked, not liking the big tom shadowing over him.

Shadow nodded, "Yes, It was hard caring for them on my own... But I guess I managed."

DirtFur smiled at the she-cat, and nodded.

"You seem strong too, cunning as well."

He still stared at the kits, as if he was examing them.

Shattered stared up at him, his eyes doing their best to keep contact while his neck began to hurt. He was determined not to let it show. "We are strong. We could hunt and fight just as well as you Clan cats!" His tail lashed in defiance, as if waiting for the tom to try to prove him wrong.

The tom stared down at the little kit with a smile. He liked this kit, he had courage, determination.

"I know."

He smiled.

Shattered blinked in surprise. He hadn't expected any of these new cats to actually admit to that being possible. Maybe they aren't all so bad... A bit taken aback, the tortoiseshell kit smiled warily. "So, what's your name? Is it one of those weird Clan names that has kit on the end?" His question and curiosity was now genuine, his suspicion forgotten.

DirtFur Chortled.

"Oh, heavens no. I'm a warrior, full bled cat. I'm not a kit anymore, only our little ones, like you, has kit on the end. I'm DirtFur. So, once I was Dirtkit, then Dirtpaw."

He smiled down at the kit, his tail tip flicking.

The kit's nose wrinkled at the thought. "But doesn't that get confusing? Wouldn't it be easier just to have one name?" Guessing what the answer would be, that it would be something only the Clan cats would see sense to, Shattered pushed the question away with a quick shake of his head. "Does it take long to become a warrior? What do they do?"

He sat up straight, looking down at the young kit.

"Warriors are there to train the younger ones, the ones with the 'paws'. They are called apprentice's. To be a warrior, the young apprentice has to learn all the training. Battle techniques, hunting techniques, tracking, the borders.."

Tears wrinkled is nose, and butted his brother.

"Let's play..."

Shattered's eyes shone. Being a warrior sounded so exciting! Knowing how to fight and hunt... Dirtfur looked proud, at least. "He opened his mouth to ask another question when his brother nudged him.

"But I-" the kit dropped his protest. He still wanted to know more, but maybe he was just making himself look stupid. He turned on his brother, a playful glint in his eyes. "Okay, Tears. You be the mouse, and I'll eat you!" The tom leapt at his sibling, plowing him over softly.
