Shadow laid her tail across Shattered's shoulders. "I would go back to the loner territories, if you came with me I would teach you to hunt and flight myself. This is not a choice you have to make now, but soon." she smiled.

Shattered almost didn't hear his mother. He didn't want to. "But why can't you stay here?" He whined pitifully. "We're safe and we have food. When we learn how to fight we can keep you safe!" The little tom started to shake, and he pressed his muzzle into his mother's fur.

Shadow sighed, "I don't think ShadowClan wants me babe." she licked the top of Shattered's head.

He sniffled, and then looked up at his mother with determination in his narrowed eyes. "Course they do! Why wouldn't they? I bet you could hunt n' fight as good as they could." His tail lashed out behind him. "You just need to showum." His tongue speed over the words, jumbling them together in a very kit-like way.

Shadow purred, "Because I was raised as a loner they don't like me, they don't trust me." she shook her head.

Shattered frowned. "But... But..." He couldn't get the words out. He couldn't find a convincing word. "But I don't want you to go!"

She licked him on the head, "Then stay here, become a Warrior." she said. "You don't need me to do help you anymore."

Shattered looked up at her, pleadingly, then lowered it in defeat. The tom couldn't find any more to say. He felt like his whole life was falling apart. Being torn in two. Shattered. It reminded him of his talk with Carepaw, long ago, and how she had remarked on how she wouldn't want her name to always remind her of bad things or pain. Now he was beginning to understand. He rubbed against his mother's fur again, breathing in her scent. He didn't want to ever forget it.

Shadow nodded, "Nap time kits. Sleep now, play tomorrow." she curled up and waited for her kits to follow, then she fell asleep.

Claw ran behind beside fang then when in the den sat beside her. His blue eyes widened when his mother asked him the question. Then thought about it 'stay here or go but have freedom' "I am going with you momma!" mewed Claw standing up eye full of determination.

Shattered looked at his brother sadly. He knew that he wouldn't be leaving. He just couldn't. He looked away, down at his paws, wanting the earth to just swallow him up and end everything.

Shattered perked up at hearing that. His tail raised high above his head and he smiled at his brother, though he remained close to Shadow. Then he looked over to Dirtfur with a wrinkled nose. The big tom smelled foul, but if he could change his mother's mind about staying then he could bare it.

Shadow sighed, she looked away. "Kits, Nap time! Now." she ordered. She got up and nosed them into the nest. Then she looked at Dirtfur, "What isn't true?"
