"Either I stay as Tears, or I don't join at all! I'll go alone out in the big world by myself!"

He puffed out his chest.

"Tears! No! I love you!" she pressed her close. She stopped purring, unable to force herself.

"You don't understand!"

He made his eyes shut, a whining noise being made.

"I do honey! I do! My name will be changed too! Please understand!" tears formed under her head but she blinked them away. She licked his cheek rapidly hoping he would stop.

Spottedstar began to feel awkward. This whole mother-kit moment was something lost on her. What she did know, however, was that she wasn't keen on loosing an extra kit. She cleared her throat in order to get their attention. "Tears, understand that a different name won't change your life. You'll still have your mother and siblings, and you'll still be the same cat you are now. A name is just a name."

Tears let out a hiss of frustration, and turned up on SpottedStar.

"Do you not know what names are? They represent the cat, show them who they really are. If I change my name, people will think different of me. I don't want that to happen. I want to keep my name, my attitude, my ways, my family, and how people think of me."

Shadow held him close, "You will always be Tears to me!" Shadow purred. She licked his cheek, "Spottedstar, are you sure he cannot be Tearkit? He is my son and I... I..."

He glared at his mother. Sure, learning how to do all these things would be great, but he didn't like it. He wanted to be with his family only.

"No, I am Tears. Not TearKit, or DarkKit, or anything! I am Tears, and that's that!"

He spat.

Spottedstar's amber eyes narrowed and she shook her head. "Fine. Shadow, if his mind can't be changed, he can't become a ShadowClan cat. If he won't accept our customs now, he never will."

He turn, and ran off.

Shadow took a step forward, "Tears! No!" she turned on Spottedstar, "How could you?! He is my kit! My son!"

Claw stepped forward "Well I'm not leaving something is just telling me to stay..." he mewed looking up at spottedstar.

Tigerfang had moved his way over so that he was beside Leafheart and nuzzled her as a greeting and stayed beside her a the meeting moved on.

Shadow looked at them, feeling alone and helpless, "I'm not staying without my son!" she wailed. "I'm a mother, you must understand."

Shattered came up with his brother. "I am too, Momma. I love you and Tears, but I want to stay here." He looked down at his paws. Things had been going so well until Tears had come in and messed it all up.

"Actually, I don't understand. I'll never have kits," Spottedstar explained. "But I can try to imagine. I'm sorry about all this." She looked down at the kits, happy that some at least had chosen to stay. Truth be told, with the matter of Shadow staying or leaving was something she could go either way on. It would be the kits who would grow up to be ShadowClan warriors. "I had hoped things wouldn't come to this."
